To wear nice trainers to low key wedding

Going to a friend's wedding in a few weeks. The couple are mid 50s/60ish. Ceremony at registry office followed by lunch in a local restaurant.
I cannot wear heels anymore due to weak ankles and dodgy feet. I have smartish flatform trainers which would go well with wide leg trousers and they would be mostly covered. Can't afford to buy new shoes. I do have some beautiful wedge heel brogues but they are quite high. WIBU to wear the flats?

I've seen people at weddings dressed for going to the beach (flip flops, etc.) and someone at a funeral recently dressed for going on a hike (fleece and hiking boots). I will admit to rolling my eyes and wondering why they couldn't step outside their comfort zone for one day and wear something a little more appropriate to the occasion. Ditto women who make a point of never wearing make up, even to their own wedding, like it's some sort of virtue.

Or maybe they just aren't as shallow as you.

After I badly twisted my ankle last year and couldn’t wear any shoes at all apart from my very old clunky Skechers that were nowhere near as nice as your trainers, I had no choice but to wear them to a (very posh) wedding. Nobody died.

Plenty of brides wear trainers to their own weddings these days, if the pearl clutchers of MN can handle it!

You’ll be fine OP.

Normally I'd say no trainers to a wedding but if it's that or hurt yourself then wear the trainers. The gold ones are a bit more dressy, I'd just make sure your trousers are long enough with them! They're really nice!

@sweetpickle2 the terms "nobody died" and "pearl clutchers" resonate 🤣
