To think choice of Mattress > Bed in importance?

I would like to know people's perspectives. Everything about my flat is a bit minimalistic (which I like). The best choice of bed to fit in with the general "vibe" is actually one of those cheap wooden basic frames that you see for around £100-200 on IKEA or Amazon.

I am a bit worried about spending so little (and the reviews do mention breakages and squeaking noises), but do plan to try and find a very good mattress, because it seems to me that the mattress is the most important part anyway? Plus by saving on the bed, I could spend more on the mattress?

I would like to know what others think. The best mattress I ever had was actually an orthopaedic one (although I do not have any back issues) and I sometimes stay with a friend who has a really comfy plain old IKEA one.

To be honest i find choosing a new mattress an absolute nightmare ! We stay somewhere where we really like the mattress, including Premier Inn, then go and try one elsewhere and it feels awful! I think the base does affect it, the ones I've liked have felt comfier on a divan base, but i hate the look of them! Our latest mattress is an ikea as we didn't want to risk £000’s on an expensive one , but then ended up spending hundreds more on a proper Simba topper as it was so hard.
If you like your friends mattress see what kind of frame its on, it makes a difference
