To be so so angry and not sure if I can do anything about it?!

We're 3 hours away from home celebrating my brother in law and his fiancées engagement, we went for dinner at their local pub last night.

It's a 10 minute walk back to theirs, there were 8 of us plus my 15 month old in her pram. About 8pm and somebody forcefully threw a McDonald's cup full of ice and coke out of their car window at us as a group, it hit my daughter in the face and she has a cut lip.

None of us managed to get number plate, only colour and make of car. Unlikely to be any CCTV where we were but they were driving in the direction of the pub.

If I called the pub and gave them the time do you think they'd disclose a number plate to me? So I could report it? If I did report it, would police even be able to do anything?

I feel so upset that some absolute scumbag has hurt my baby and I couldn't stop it.

Not a violent or aggressive person in the slightest but I felt this anger that actually scared me! (I guess that this is the mama bear thing they talk about) that made me want to rip whoever it was to pieces!

Oh that’s absolutely horrible. No wonder you are raging. I would try everything to get that reg number. Even if there’s a local Facebook page ask people if they’ve any dash cam footage. Hope she is ok soon.

DoreenonTill8 · 15/09/2024 07:35

That is absolutely fucking awful, how is your poor baby?

DustyLee123 · 15/09/2024 07:35

You nee to report it to the police , it’s assault. Using the car make and colour might help them find it on ANPR

Bamboozledbylife · 15/09/2024 07:35

Yanbu to report it. I 100%would

autienotnaughty · 15/09/2024 07:36

I would report to non emergency police. Explain where they were heading and that your dd was hurt.

I might join the local one, we're not from here so not sure if they'll allow me to join! Might have to tell a white lie.

Id leave it and be grateful you're not from there and can leave. Reporting it just keeps it going and very unlikely to lead to any sort of justice. Even if the person was found and admitted it (all highly unlikely) they could say it was an accident and trying to chuck the drink in a bin etc

Hope your DD is ok but I'd draw a line and move on.

elm26 · 15/09/2024 07:42

Thanks @Bamboozledbylife and @autienotnaughty I will report

That's a horrible thing to happen to anyone but especially to a young child.

Definitely report it to the police. There may be other CCTV cameras in operation in the area.

Blarn · 15/09/2024 07:48

Absolutely report on the non-emergency line. Idiots like this go through life thinking there are no consequences for their actions. I think at the time I would have asked someone to turn around and see if the car was at the pub and get the reg.

AhBiscuits · 15/09/2024 07:49

Absolutely report to the police.
Think about anywhere that may be able to provide CCTV. What about McDonald's? Is it obvious which one they would have been to?
You're unlikely to be the first or last victims of these scumbags. Maybe someone else has already reported and yours will help them identify them.

Dibbydoos · 15/09/2024 07:49

I think it's a thing, throwing stuff at people like that. The AHs.

I was at a festival yesterday and these parents plus older teen daughter were throwing their cups and cans around. Luckily noone got hurt. Complete DHs.

Zanatdy · 15/09/2024 08:03

That’s terrible. Report to the police, they will be able to obtain the details from the pub

MargaretThursday · 15/09/2024 08:11

Report to police.

I had a cup dropped from a car park next to me. I phoned the police, not because ai was hurt, but on the basis if the kids did it and hit someone on the head it could potentially kill, and I thought the police might want to speak to the kids.

They called it assault, which in my case seemed definitely ott, as all ai was was mildly splashed, and reacted straight away.
I even had a call from victim's support a few days later!

In your case there is an injury and it's far more serious than mine. I was surprised how seriously they took it.

PersephonePomegranate23 · 15/09/2024 08:28

What utter scumbags!

Definitely report with whatever information you have, there could be camera footage. Take photos of your poor child's lip too.

What a horrible thing to happen.

goldenshred · 15/09/2024 08:29

That's horrendous I'm sorry. Yes report it - it is assult on a baby what is wrong with people? Also, I'd take a photo of her cut as evidence as hopefully it will heal quickly.

DoreenonTill8 · 15/09/2024 08:32

@elm26 did you take a photo? Understandably if not as can't imagine stress at it, could have been anything in that cup!

isthismylifenow · 15/09/2024 08:37

Wtf is wrong with people!

I am so sorry OP.

elm26 · 15/09/2024 08:55

Thanks everyone will contact the pub when they open for lunch and BIL and SIL are on it with calling local McDonald's.

I have a picture of her lip, not of the cup though I just wanted to move quickly and get her in the light at BIL's so I could see it properly.

It's a small cut where her lip hit her tooth.

Feel guilty I even had her out, she's normally in bed for 7-7:30 but it's typical the one night we took her out later to celebrate some idiots are out and about.
