HELLO

I want to close my bank account but if someone sends me money will it just decline the transfer and they won't lose their money on a bank I can no longer access? Don't want to communicate with this person any longer but don't want them to send money to a closed account
Thanks

I "switched" my bank account forgot to tell someone and they sent me money.
The switch did its magic, even after months, and the money landed in my new account.
I was impressed.

I just don't want them sending money anymore but I don't know how to go about stopping it

If you use the switch service to move banks, amy payments will get redirected for a certain length of time.

If you just close the account, the payments will usually bounce back to the person sending the money.

Yes exactly this

If you close an account most of the time payments will just bounce back. But there are cases where money gets stuck. So the person may think you've received the money when you haven't

You might be able to ask your own bank to block payments from known accounts. Worth a try and will save you the hassle of changing account numbers etc.

Otherwise if it's just the occasional payment can you just send it back yourself?

This week I sent my daughter some money, but I hadn't realised she'd changed banks. The money bounced back to me 24 hours later.
