Monthly meltdowns

My DD turns 12 next month. Physically she's definitely started puberty. She has incredible, emotional outbursts and meltdowns from time to time and I've started tracking them - they're pretty much monthly (between 6th and 11th of the month).

AIBU to think this is linked to her hormonal cycle?

Quite possible. Is there any chance she could have started her periods and not told you? Please keep an eye on her over the next few years to check it's not developing into PMDD as well!

I would say so. Both my DD’s started their periods at 10, both were grumpy for months before, I would guess she will start soon if she hasn’t already 😬

Thank you. Yeah - when I googled it that came up. Shamefully, I'd never heard of it.

I don't think there is any way she wouldn't have said anything/possibly been able to hide it. She's still exceptionally 'young' and doesn't hide at all.

@hpertrophywife sorry, I wasn't even sure if I should ask. Totally understand what you mean about her being "young".

No shame about not knowing about PMDD. It's only been getting publicity in the past few years. I was diagnosed with it last month at the sprightly age of 39, but I have heard anecdotally of teenaged girls having it (too long ago for me to work out if I had it then). Hopefully it's just her hormones raging and it'll settle down over the next few years, but worth keeping in mind 😘
