Pregnant dog

AIBU? So my partner came home last night and told me he thinks the dog is pregnant (by another dog from his work that I thought was neutered) I was absolutely livid and told him I am not having a litter of puppies at home because he is at work all day and I will be the one looking after them. We had a massive row over it and I get told I'm selfish.

So the reasons I don't want to are, she's a big dog and likely to have a big litter, I have a 6 month old baby and am pregnant, I've just spent the last 3 years overcoming psychosis and getting my mental health back on track and I feel this would be a massive trigger for me.

He's saying I wouldn't have to do anything as the mum would but I just don't think that's true. Please tell me if I'm in the wrong? It's like he's done it on purpose

The bully XL thing isn't really a shoehorn to be fair. It is a type not breed and I would just worry that that particular cross may be at risk of falling into the type criteria. At birth it isn't possible to type as it is size and conformation based. Just an extra complication which may or may not crop up.

Well I wouldn't, but she has, so there's no point going on about it, and she's said that she's going to change the situation. Leave it.

Clearinguptheclutter · 12/09/2024 16:57

Sorry OP your (d)p is a total irresponsible idiot
he puts you and your family first and gets the dog sorted out at the vet, or you leave. That’s the only options here.

So without knowing the OP at all, you have decided she is neither normal nor educated? You are a nasty piece of work.

leighks123 · 12/09/2024 17:00

@Starbarr07 never have I heard something so ridiculous, I can't have a baby with some who has a cane corso?! Have you ever met or been around one?!
I am not wasting anymore time replying to the likes of you

OP, just ignore that poster. At least the offensive posts have been deleted.

Starbarr07 · 12/09/2024 17:05

Since December 2023 , Cane Corso are banned under UK law. Same as XL bully's.

Fishgish · 12/09/2024 17:06

Maybe the dog can now live at the “yard” with her husband and all the doting man workers. You don’t need her around. Can she “get lost” when you secretly take her to shelter to be rehomed.

They really aren't!

OP I'm so sorry you're being put through the wringer, your husband is an arse and it's awful for your poor dog too. Ddb x cc pups are going to be huge! Finding responsible homes for them will be so stressful 😪

Some of the comments might drive @leighks123 away, and given she might need support in leaving her relationship, thats really not a good thing.

Errr they're really not. You parroted this nonsense on doghouse a few months ago and were shot down in a ball of flames.

I'm so so drained I do not need your shitty comments I know it's not an ideal situation. My kids will be very well looked after so no it's not poor children at all. If want to just give me shit then go ahead I don't have the energy to engage with you

I've decided to remove myself from the situation and the relationship unless he gets it sorted so not really my problem anymore I feel absolutely awful and guilty for the dog but I don't see any other way around it. Putting myself and my children first

This sounds like a VERY sensible option. You need to put your children first which means prioritising your MH.

Raising a littler of pups is expensive and stressful. If he won't let you take her to the vets then that says it all really.

luckylavender · 12/09/2024 17:12

Yes they are

You may want to read the article, not just the headline.

They aren't banned. They may come under type, same as a lab x rottie might, but they are not a banned breed

Starbarr07 · 12/09/2024 17:15

They are banned.

I wish I could take her to the vets but I just can't I am not registered owner of her so hopefully he does the right thing

The vets don't check your id or even ask if you are the owner. I took my sisters dog last week and they didn't even ask and they don't care.

Take the dog, get a scan and go from there.

Just sending some unmumsnetty hugs your way @leighks123 .💐💐xxx
