Child development

Long story short my daughter's development is a bit behind. She's 15 months old and doesn't respond to her name (at all) she doesn't turn to voices, she's just in her own world, I know she can hear because her face lights up whenever she hears her favourite song, or mrs rachel. She has no words other than dadadada witch I don't believe she's knows what dada actually means, the past few days she's finally started taking steps! So that's great but now she's getting closer to 1 1/2 I'm worried about her lack of communication.

Ask your GP to refer for a hearing test. It's possible to hear some frequencies but not others and this will delay speech.

Also contact your Health Visitor. For all the abuse they get on MN, they are the professionals who monitor children's development.

You could see about getting her hearing tested if that's worrying you. But development wise it doesn't sound that bad. (My youngest is now 2 and only just got a vocabulary of about 6 words) Neither of mine had any words at that age and it would take saying their name several times to get a response, sometimes not at all. They just don't want to listen to me.

Look at the asq3 tool for her age …..will give you an indicator of where a child her age is likely up to….sometimes you think they are behind when actually they are not
