Weight loss threads

Is there an algorithm on mumsnet for active threads?

I keep being shown weight loss threads, with at least 5 on my active thread list talking about mounjaro. I find this really irritating. To each their own but I don't want society's current obsession with weight loss injections to meet modern beauty standards pushed in my face every time I go on mumsnet.

Also - is there any way to hide whole topics, not just threads?

Active should just show you the most recently posted on threads

As for hiding things, yep, it's in settings.

If the above link doesn't work

Top right of the page, little person icon.
Clock that and select settings.

Then More settings.

Then Talk settings

And it's at the bottom of that page.

StuckOnTheCeiling · 08/09/2024 15:32

Yes. It shows you what is active…

Yes, you can hide topics.

Yes, go and hide all the topics.

Type in 'weight loss' and 'Diet' and 'injections' and 'weight. (Into the blank field.)

I agree @cinammonfishsticks I got so sick of all the mounjaro and ozempic threads, constantly appearing on active, that I have hidden all the boards that feature them. It's not triggering or anything - but I am sooo sick of it. One time (a few weeks ago) there were 7 threads in the top 25 or so in ACTIVE, that featured mounjaro!

I think weight loss injections are wrong. (JMO,) and don't want these threads ramming down my throat ta.

Soooo many. It was beginning to feel normalised rather than a last resort and I imagine there are many on here who have been influenced into using it unnecessarily by seeing threads like that. Just feels a bit wrong, the mumsnet equivalent of heroin chic being paraded on noughtie magazine covers to influence weight loss

I have a host of topics hidden but apparently not weight loss. Never been on a diet in my life and never noticed these until recently. It seems there has been an explosion of them.
I guess it's a good thing for the health of the population that people are trying to avoid obesity.

When I first read the word Mounjaro I thought it was a Mumsnet name for the mountain, and was perplexed as to why so many people were doing the trek. Then I realised it's yet another miracle cure for being overweight that costs rather a lot of money with dubious results.

I completely agree with this. Couldn't have put it better myself. 👏

Agree with this too!

When I kept seeing mounjaro, I thought people were going on about the Linux Operating System (that's manjaro!) Easy mistake to make! 😆

Since I saw this thread I have seen weight loss injections everywhere I look!
I wonder is there anyone not on them?
