Boys Clothes

We recently had a little boy and is it just me who is fed up of dinosaur prints/tractor prints?! Everything I see is bright with huge dinosaurs on them etc.

Also, It seems most gifts we get given is super bright with loads of designs on them. Is this just baby boy clothes in general?! I’ve bought some nice plain stuff from Next but also am struggling to find non bright non printed items! Or just my old DDs clothes 😁

Or am I just being too fussy!

I like bright colours and designs for my little boys. If they want to dress in plain grey and dark blue as teenagers they can but for now I like my young children to wear child-like clothes.

whotoldyouso · 07/09/2024 18:01

I don’t like most boys clothes to be honest. I’m not keen on the dinosaur designs and I don’t like the sludge / khaki / grey colours.

BuenosAiresTango · 07/09/2024 18:01

Yes ditto!

Next, John Lewis, M&S. Never had problems with this really. Found loads of plain, animal prints, abstract prints, space theme, nature.

Kind of. Definitely harder just to grab something from the supermarket though, although Sainsbury’s or Morrisons are sometimes quite nice.

DS has lovely clothes from Joules and Monsoon, not cheap though. And JoJo.

I like vertbaudet for boys clothes (and, indeed, girls clothes)

Not that hard really.quick look at Asda and plenty of dull colours, prints other than dinosaurs etc.

I only glanced but a lot of that is Disney, which just isn’t to everyone’s taste.

Lots about what you DON'T want, but what exactly do you want? It's a big world out there, easy to find you options if you say what you actually like.

whotoldyouso · 07/09/2024 18:16

For me, I want

A variety of colours: that doesn’t mean I want garish but just things that aren’t dark and depressing.

Stop putting dinosaurs on everything. Even buying some T shirts in Next and there’s a little tyrannosaurus motif. Just stop.

I get girls apparently = bunnies and ponies and flowers and fruit. Boys only seem to = tractors, cars and aforementioned dinosaurs. Yes you sometimes get other animals (though tends to be at the higher end) but even then it’s sharks, orcas … how about a badger or hedgehog? How about seagulls for summer or a hawk or a stag for autumn (I do actually have one of these for DS but it’s unusual. Hence everyone comments on it.)

I mean, I am sure people will post links but generally speaking you won’t wander into your local Tesco and find them. You just won’t.

There are loads of options, like above you just pick the yellow mix if you want lighter colours. Did you want a design? What? Underwater / jungle / ...?

My daughter inherited a bunch of grey/beige/grey/brown clothes from a boy at nursery. It's mostly from H&M.

bigageap · 07/09/2024 18:31

Tesco have some lovely knitted outfits normally for winter. Zara also has a couple of nice outfits when I looked last week. H&M always have lovely basics/staples.

Atishooo · 07/09/2024 18:32

I bought my DS’s clothes from Zara, they have some lovely stuff.

DappledThings · 07/09/2024 18:36

Sainsbury's always have loads. I like bright colours but they also have a lot that don't have pictures or if they do are a much wider range of animals etc.

Most of it isn't though, it's plain or animals. Yes some Disney, weird amount of Lilo & Stitch (I don't get why it's still so popular), Peter Rabbit etc but lots of simple stuff. I actually found in harder to buy bright colours that op finds in abundance

TribeofFfive · 07/09/2024 18:41

Where are you shopping? I’ve got 3 boys and none of them have ever worn dinosaur clothing, tractor clothing or bright colours.

try Zara, H&M, F&F at tesco and matalan.

In store (rather than online) in supermarkets mainly! But thank you to everyone for some better ideas, I’ll get looking online. Perhaps the selection in store isn’t as good.

Definitely do H&M and Zara online. I did quite large orders on both last week and got some lovely stuff for the boys. Aged between 1-6.

Tesco you’ll need to go to in person but worth it.

SkankingWombat · 07/09/2024 19:23

Supermarkets are pretty stereotyped TBH, whether you're buying for boys or girls. I have 2 DDs and found an equivalent samey-ness for them of overly cutesy, unicorns, and 'be kind' clothing in an array of pinks and pastels. I only buy socks, underwear and uniform from supermarkets as a result.

I don't have the budget for John Lewis, Boden etc full price, but often buy ahead in the sales or look for those and similar brands on Vinted.

Pippa905 · 07/09/2024 20:28

The choice is awful for boys. I don't buy super bright or clothes with loads of designs on. This doesn't mean my child is dressed in dull clothing either, there's an in between dull and covered in characters it's just a bit hard to find!

Zara, Mango, Mamas and Papas and Next (online has much better options but disappointed when I looked recently). H&M can be good but is a bit hit and miss with quality. Sainsbury's and Tesco have lovely baby stuff but I find anything for 2+ not great.

Hejlenki has beautiful clothes but they're expensive so I've never bought anything (although with a second DS on the way I was tempted!)

SprigatitoYouAndIKnow · 07/09/2024 20:47

And then they turn 7 and everything is black, grey or navy. You have the choice of gaming or football, so don't expect to find anything for a boy who is not into those two things.

I am still miffed that baby boy trousers get pockets when they can't even coordinate their hands, but half of women's clothes don't. My kids look confused about me ranting about sexist pockets regularly.

MidnightPatrol · 07/09/2024 20:52

Agreed a lot of it is dreadful.

Zara is great.

H&M probably the only ‘cheap’ shop. Lindex can be good (now stocked in John Lewis) - affordable and funky patterns.

I then like brands like Mini Rodini or Bobo Choses but… they are expensive.

I find Next pretty odd tbh - so much of their boys toddler wear looks like the wardrobe of a 19 year old off to Zante with the lads.

patchworkbear · 07/09/2024 20:55

I felt the same so shopped at Joules, Frugi, Kite Clothing and Boden. Expensive but I loved dressing DS up when they were little!
