To HATE going on holiday with a baby

This is a rant, just a warning.

Have gone on a UK hol with my 12m old and oh my god I’ve hated every second of it.

Despite initially struggling a lot with PND I handle parenting pretty well at home now. I feel in control, have smiles and laughs with her and enjoy it but OMG being on holiday with a baby is shit.

First of all as soon as you arrive, you wish you didn’t have a baby. I never feel like this normally but everyone is having a lovely bloody time drinking wine, going on long walks, playing cards into the night and am I?? Bloody no!! I’m cleaning up sick, trying to get her to eat, trying to keep her entertained without her usual 5000 toys. It’s awful. I feel guilty for hating it and for thinking how lovely this would be if she weren’t here!!

Her sleep is shit while away, don’t know why, the travel cot looks really uncomfortable tbf. I’m sick to death of rocking her back to sleep.

Honestly I am shocked, I thought I was passed this stage of just hating parenting. Woke my partner up in tears at 4am after the FIFTH atine trying to put her down in her cot just saying how much I bloody hate this holiday and how shit it is.

We are going home today thank god. Fingers crossed her sleep goes back to normal and she doesn’t keep doing this cos it’s a nightmare.

I stg I don’t know what’s wrong with me, loads of people I know travel abroad and stuff with babies all the time and seem to enjoy it??? So why can’t I get the hang of this?

Wow this thread is an eye opener...
Me and DH are planning a trip to Turkey with friends (one couple). DS at the time will be 14 months and the couple's kids will be 16 months & 2.5 yrs.
Are we insane for attempting this 😅, I'm scared!

I think it will be lovely! You just have to centre thing around the children, but that’s parenting anyway!

Our first holiday with our DD was a caravan in the new forest for a week- she had just started using a couple of words, and all she did for 4 days was point out the window and say 'home' 😂 we packed up and left half way through the holiday

This thread is very validating for me. We went away with 9 month old DS for a week to a UK seaside town. It was fine, but agree, it was same shit different location. We were also dealing with the after effects of a bad stomach bug and a bout of teething, so he wasn't 100%. We actually slightly delayed our arrival day to allow him to recover from the bug, so lost out on one night. I couldn't imagine the stress of this, had we been going abroad and contemplating whether to risk going on a plane. Or, the massive faff and worry of dealing with a baby with a stomach bug abroad. No thank you, until our son can communicate better and entertain himself a little more (age 3-ish) then I think we will holiday in the UK. It is fine and it isn't forever.

I know about 10 couples with a baby of a similar age to us. All these couples apart from us and one other couple have gone abroad this year, some multiple times and one even took a month long road trip (my idea of hell on earth). Others have been on long haul flights to far flung exotic locations. I don't understand it to be honest, they must either have supremely easy babies, or have a much much higher tolerance for holiday stress than I do. Tbf, our son doesn't nap for very long, doesn't nap in the pram unless exhausted (then only for 20 minutes) and has a bad case of FOMO....so maybe others have it a lot easier.

It's a sad discovery that holidaying with children is just your usual job in less convenient circumstances. Nothing odd about you.

Thanks for this thread. I have a 5m old, partner thinks its a good idea travel, i couldn't think of anything worse. This post sums up exactly what im thinking. I love my baby and being with him, but the idea of not having everything to hand , exactly where I want it and how would drive me mad. And trying to pretend you're enjoying yourself when it must be so restrictive would be awful. I think the original poster it a totally normal person who is being honest with themselves. Appreciate some people would love this sort of thing, but equally a lot wouldn't.

I found travelling with babies mostly awful. It gets much easier and a lot more fun when they’re older!! What you are feeling is very normal.
