Internet harms

AIBU or am I right in thinking that maybe part of the issues we have today with recent violent offences, VAWG and the general breakdown in society is to do with young people having access to the internet and it not being monitored well?

Particularly parents ignoring age ratings on games, films, letting their kids access websites underage and being unaware of what they do or view online. This ties in with particularly violent porn which is changing acceptable boundaries within sexual relationships and other content that is exceptionally violent like amputations, ISIS tortue/execution videos and other horrors that desensitise and normalise violence?

Broadening it out, is this also a problem when it comes to VAWG in older men when there is now such a smorgasbord of degrading and misogynistic content so easily accessible?

The online world has also incubated ideas that would be much harder to take root and expand such as incel culture and make it easier to find self harm communities and for people that spout hate and lies to find each other and organise.

Yes, not sure to what extent, but certainly part of it

Yes and no. Misogyny has always existed, with or without the internet as has VAWAG.

From what I understand, young women are being coerced into sex acts they don't want to do because of porn and there is more sexual assault in primary school and school in general because of porn.

I believe boys are acting in a mysogynist manner towards female teachers. I have noticed the pornification of society, it infects everything from children's clothes, to shaving, to plastic surgery, to sex on TV.

It has allowed people to be radicalised and created more extremists. Certain types of social media such as Telegram allows like minded weirdos to exchange ideas and arrange events.

Also
The advancement of AI that can put any of us into a porn video to be used for blackmail or revenge porn even though it isn't the person whose face it is.

Deepfake videos that can change or sway people's political views/votes.

Particularly when other countries want to interfere

Then there are the Andrew Tate types and the way he's been able to reach young men.

I don't think we can put the genie back in the bottle but it's not encouraging in this country that blair and people like him are advocating for more AI (something the tony blair institute is making millions out of) blair worming his way back into the new new labour party.
