Do you buy make trainers, trendy type ones for £50 or so for your little ones-5/6 year olds or go for a cheaper pair?
Is it ridiculous to spend that amount on a little one

There are plenty of Nikes or Adidas shoes for a 5/6 year old that are more like £25-30, which is cheaper than Clarks and generally better quality too - I can't get over that they're still in business when their £38 trainers fall apart so quickly.

Really? DD has a pair of Clarks trainers and a pair of Converse trainers and the Clarks ones have lasted much better and still look nearly new.

I've found Clarks extremely hit and miss. Some styles have been absolutely awful and friends with the same shoe have had exactly the same problems, which is why I don't understand why refunds haven't put them out of business! I'm not sure I'd expect Converse to be particularly hard-wearing to be honest, given the adult shoes always look sloppy pretty quickly.

Mine get Clarks trainers from an outlet store about £25. The supermarket ones always seem very inflexible. Would not want to spend £50 on trainers for a 6 year old, but it depends how much they would love them and wear them. Does your 6 year old really want grey trainers? Or is it that you want her to look a certain way? I certainly wouldn't spend loads of money to buy shoes for a child that I liked but they didn't. If it was the case that they really loved them then I might. My 6 year old is all about the pink and purple sparkles and unicorns and wouldn't get any joy from the trainers pictured.

I've found Clarks trainers very good but had a couple of kids shoes from there that literally fell apart within 3 months

Yes we do. Possibly stems from a poorer childhood and as DH put it forced to wear pony trainers.

There are a few brands I really like but I look for them on Vinted or TK Maxx before buying outright.

Slightly off topic but I am completely bemused that people have children whose shoes are in good enough condition to sell/pass on to others 😳 My two absolutely annihilate theirs! 🙈

Mine tended to grow out of them before they got ruined! Apart from school shoes, spent as much on those as nice trainers and yet they would like like they’d been mangled by a combine harvester within about 2 weeks 😂

ItsAStupidQuestion · 05/09/2024 22:30

@TheChosenTwo Oh mine never last until they've grown out of them, I have to replace them several times way before that stage! My biggest had to have 6 pairs of school shoes last year - I've tried more expensive ones, cheaper ones, mid range ones, all end up the same!

Still looking nearly new doesn't mean they're necessarily good quality. Good quality for me is a great fit and good flex. Inflexible shoes with plastic soles last for ages but are absolutely horrible for feet. Clarks have gone really downhill in terms of being good supportive shoes.

Pyjamatimenow · 05/09/2024 22:32

I buy adidas because I realised they withstand the washing machine better than any supermarket ones and they’re not that different in price

Faminhotcheetos · 05/09/2024 22:39

@DinosaurMunch Theyre blue…I decided to go on the same pair but bright pink, but she liked both, she’s not a super girly girl, she has a sparkly lunch bag, bottle etc, Garfield bag pack, Sonic sweatshirt, we’re not hugely unicorns and glitter

Same. Doesn't matter what they cost!

This is currently my 4 year olds shoe shelf 😂

Caspianberg · 14/09/2024 18:24

@ItsAStupidQuestion it depends on the shoe here. Things like trainers are worn almost daily, so they are trashed before outgrown. But wellington boots or slippers or beach shoes often get outgrown in as new condition as only worn in certain weathers (or indoors for slippers)

Happiestwhen · 15/09/2024 19:44

Cjsxx I love it, gorgeous collection 😍
