Do you buy expensive trainers…for your kids

Do you buy make trainers, trendy type ones for £50 or so for your little ones-5/6 year olds or go for a cheaper pair?
Is it ridiculous to spend that amount on a little one

The last two years I’ve bought white, Velcro, basic Adidas ones from Decathlon for about £20, I loved them, very soft, but didn’t want to get the same for the third year in a row really

Not fashioned brand trainers no but asics sports trainers for kids aged 8 etc

Ime the fashion brand adidas/nike etc childrens trainers are cheaper than stuff like clarks, I've always assumed thats why people bought them.

The only trainers you get cheaper are supermarket ones and the only pair of those we had fell apart.

NunyaBeeswax · 04/09/2024 23:15

They grow too quick.

My daughter loved her wellies until she was 8/9
Then she wanted trainers, was happy with Tesco / Asda.
She's 11 now and shes starting tog etc a little conscious about things, but she's happy with Reebok and puma under £50 a pair.

I've told her, she wants £100+ trainers, ask Santa.. and don't expect many more presents than that.

At that age I’d get coloured ones from Decathlon,M&S or Clarks.
Their feet will grow out of them soon and the sporty brands aren’t necessarily any better.

Arrivapercy · 04/09/2024 23:17

I think buying trainers because you think they look trendy is a waste of money.....

All the other 5 year olds will think the boring white adidas are fugly anyway (rainbow/pink/sparkly is more trendy). So whats the point? Impressing other parents? They won't notice/care what brand your child's trainers are

cadburyegg · 04/09/2024 23:19

Mine are 9 and 6 and are both in Minecraft themed Skechers atm. I've been buying them for my 9yo for a couple of years but this was the first pair that I got for my 6yo who was previously in supermarket trainers. I know they will always be comfy and they do tend to last. My 9yo tends to wear through supermarket trainers very quickly.

Arrivapercy · 04/09/2024 23:20

Also those trainers are they laces? Is she confident tying them?

Do I fuck! They are 8 and 6 now and actually seek out sale or cheaper pieces 🤣

Soldieringnonosoldiershere · 04/09/2024 23:21

No I buy cheap supermarket as my 8yr old doesn’t seem to care and I hate paying for brands. But if you want to and you have the money go for it!

ncforcatquestion · 04/09/2024 23:23

I did use to, same with clothes but I would do it totally differently if I had another kid. They grow so fast it's better to buy cheaper

DonkeyyDoo · 04/09/2024 23:24

Not until they were older and asking for them. If they wanted character ones like a pp said, they’d get them but I wouldn’t buy them branded ones because they were branded because there comes a time when they do care and want everything so o can justify it now lol

IrisApfel · 04/09/2024 23:28

Mine had gazelles and similar at that age. I usually bought them in the sale though.

My 13 year old has recently bought a £150 pair of fugly looking trainers so £50 for pretty gazelles seems a bargain right now.

Nat6999 · 04/09/2024 23:31

I used to buy ds the fake ones from someone I have bought stuff from before, that way if he wrecked them it didn't matter, they usually only cost around £30 so I used to buy 2 pairs at once & kept one of for best.

Allthingsbrightandbeautifulx · 04/09/2024 23:32

Faminhotcheetos · 04/09/2024 22:42

I was going to get my Dd, 6, a pair of Adidas Gazelle type trainers-here-just the price seems a bit indulgent, she will wear them for school and for sports etc and at weekends so I suppose that justifies it? 🤷🏻‍♀️

I love these ones, just got me and DD6 a pair each as I fit in junior ones too.
£45 for DD’s and £55 for mine, but if you use JD sports and sign up as a new member (just use a different email if you’re already a member) and use discount code HELLO you’ll get 10% off.

APurpleSquirrel · 04/09/2024 23:38

No, seems a waste of money as they grow so quickly. DD (10) has colourful Karrimor trainers; DS (6) has a reduced pair of Slazenger ones for PE & needs new trainers (he's gone up half a size in 6months) but I won't be spending more than £20-30.

ItsAStupidQuestion · 04/09/2024 23:42

No. My DS8 and DS5 spend a lot of time exploring outdoors so their trainers get wrecked quickly. Also their feet seem to grow fast so I'm not spending ridiculous amounts of money on branded trainers.

RosyappleA · 05/09/2024 00:04

I buy Geox/Clarks because they are better for her feet I worry because I destroyed my feet with bad shoes growing up, but always on sale or second hand. Sketchers too for sports and can find them even at Tkmax.
I once bought her adidas on sale as she wanted some like daddy’s. However, I have boycotted the brand since due to recent scandals.

RosyappleA · 05/09/2024 00:06

To add, I also like Geox as they have the switch to turn off the lights as she isn’t allowed them on at school.

BlackeyedSusan · 05/09/2024 00:16

Little kids no. You'll need to save for when they are a teen!

Saschka · 05/09/2024 00:29

When DS was 2, I bought him an absolutely adorable little pair of Nikes. Totally impractical, not good value for money at all, but so cute. I found them in the loft the other day, and they still made me smile.

If you like them, buy them.

PeloMom · 05/09/2024 04:28

Quality shoes are important for growing bodies and impact so much!

Happiestwhen · 05/09/2024 05:11

Yes absolutely. Mine have Nike & Adidas mainly. Those Adidas ones are gorgeous, I've a few pairs like that myself 😁 the only thing is when the weather is wet you may need to have an alternative pair because the suede will get ruined.

OnAndOnAndonAgain · 05/09/2024 05:20

I wouldn't buy gazelles at that age the suede will look awful within weeks if she's using them for PE

Caspianberg · 05/09/2024 05:22

I always buy Ds good quality. Usually super fit or geox. They need to be waterproof also for autum and spring at nursery and home as they are outside a lot. He wears snow boots or hiking type waterproof in winter when it’s cold and snowy here as any trainers rubbish then.

Gazelles are not good for sports.
for sports you need cushioning, lightness, breathing, arch, flexible, back support especially as their feet grows.
gazelles are really unsuited
