Ear infection brewing

I've had a bad run of minor illnesses, coughs, colds numerous times, tonsillitis twice, ear infection once a few months ago. I had a bad cold last week again and yet again I can feel an ear infection brewing today - earache with sharp pain that comes and goes.

Is there anything I can do or buy that will help alleviate the symptoms before it really takes hold? It was agony last time before I got antibiotics, my eardrum burst and it took a few weeks to get my hearing back. I really don't want to go through it again 😭

For earache I use drops that have hydrogen peroxide in them, it seems to calm things down even if it's a middle ear infection.

I've never had an eardrum burst though so would feel nervous about using it though in that case. Maybe a warm cloth over the ear would help?

My DD had one last year and she got an ear spray - can't remember what it was but we got it from the pharmacist , it worked for her so I would try that before trying GP

Ibuprofen on regular basis (check label but I believe is 400mg every 4-6 hrs, not to exceed 8 tablets every 24hr) to deal with the inflammation for 3-4 days; take with food so it doesn’t upset your stomach. If the pain is a lot you can also add paracetamol . I wouldn’t spray anything as the ear infection is in the middle ear under the ear drum and drops etc won’t get there. If it’s still there and not improving in 2-3 days you’ll likely need antibiotics.
