To think it's just me that doesn't want the 6 weeks to end !

Reading on here and on various other different social media platforms has me thinking that I am quite alone in not wanting my child to go back to school tomorrow.
I have absolutely loved the summer holidays - it's my first one after the first year in reception, and I just don't want her to go back!
I'm going to really miss her!
All I saw before the summer holidays was parents saying how much they were dreading it, and midway through saying they were counting down the days until September..
And now, all I am seeing is posts and videos of parents joking about how they will be at the gates early, practically shoving their children through the gates and skipping home afterwards.
It makes me quite sad. Why have children if you don't want to spend time with them??

Anyone else going to miss the time they get with their children during the holidays ?

Ours are adults now but I always loved the holidays with them.

Everyone misses them, but they just cover it with bad jokes to make light of it and not pass that anxiety/ sadness onto the child.

No some people genuinely feel like this, my SIL being one. She was absolutely dreading the 6 weeks and cannot wait to get rid of them back to school, she's not joking at all.

You are not alone, I absolutely loved my children being home during the holidays. And now I have grandchildren I feel just the same. Spending time with them all is so precious.

I don't think there's anything wrong with wanting a bit of a break from your kids after 6 weeks of them.
My DD is 4 and as much as I love spending time with her, playgrounds, soft play, sticking things on paper, painting and baking do get quite repetitive after a while.
Perhaps I shouldn't have had kids then?

Yep I really miss mine too, one went to year 5 today and the other starts high school tomorrow.
I love being with them and miss them so much when they're at school.

The best summer was the one where my ds was 5-6 and it was like we hit the sweet spot. He was independent, enjoyed full days out without whining, old enough to be doing lots of stuff with and staying up a bit later etc.

Then we had my second and it's hard work. Op you have one and hit the blissfully easy years now. Of course you will love it.

DD is 5-6 and for us it’s been the perfect age. We’ve had a lovely summer together and she’s (mostly lol) been a joy to be around. I’ll
miss having her pottering around the house but I do also know that she was so excited to be going back to school and seeing her friends.

this feeling is why millions home educate

But these are the parents’ feelings. Most people
on this thread have pointed out that their kids are really excited to go back to school, however they as the parent might be feeling about it.
