To think this level of pettiness is embarrassing?

My next door neighbours are just very inconsiderate people. They need their own thread.

Our houses are attached but we have separated driveways with a clear line of gravel between them and a partial hedge.

We both keep our bins on the driveway and today I’ve gone out to put my bin back and they’ve shoved my (different) bin and placed their bin on my driveway. I moved it back and it’s heavy so it didn’t blow across.

I know this is a none thread, but it does annoy me how petty some people are. Like just why do it? 🙄 anyone have other petty neighbour stories?

(yes I’ve been sad enough to go a diagram)

I've only ever heard 'none' pronounced in a way that it rhymes with gone.

I mean, unless you've never heard a southern English voice on TV or radio, then sure...

OurFlossy · 05/09/2024 22:10

Puddles - I haven’t “got the hump”: CBA with you but I have to say you’ve come to my attention, and not for the best of reasons.
Rereading thread, I doubt I’m alone in this.

Nah. It’s petty and snobby. Has a touch of classism to it too.

I didn’t comment at all on the spelling. I simply corrected you when you said no one cares.

How do you pronounce ‘gone’?

Mustreadabook · 05/09/2024 22:46

MasterBeth · 03/09/2024 16:24

For the record...

The prefix "non-" means "not" or "the opposite of."

The word "none" means "not any".

It's on Mumsnet that I first saw this confusion and I guess it comes from people who pronounce these two words the same.

How would you pronounce them differently?

edit sorry should have read to the end.

In a way that rhymes with Ron.

In a way that rhymes with Ron.

I've heard it rhymed with spawn, usually in old black and white films set in mansions and starring crotchety old Colonels!

In my mother’s accent ‘Ron’ rhymes with ‘gun’. Does that work for you?

Op I know exactly what you mean, we have neighbours who consistently perform little acts of selfishness that you'd be the petty one to complain about, but build up to just being really f*cking annoying.

When our neighbours first moved in I woke up on my sunlounger to find them standing on my side of the back garden debating where to put their palm tree so it didn't take up any space on their smaller patch of grass. Their decision seemingly was to put it on my side of the garden (we have a privacy screen on the patio that establishes the boundaries), to maximise their space. Then their garden chairs were so far over the boundary they used to stare at us eating breakfast in our kitchen.

They've now put a fence on the garden boundary, which they didn't ask permission to do, just found the guy in my garden one morning with his tools on my patio furniture! However, glad as we are for it, the tree palms still overhang, the cables for all their garden lights are "tidied away" by being pushed under the privacy screen onto our side, their swing chair on the shared balcony is shoved up against our side so the feet stick under the divider onto my balcony, and the bloody thing bangs against our wall in the wind. I push it back because I store my chairs in winter under a cover in the corner and they just shove it back and knock my garden chairs over. Their garden lights stay on until 2am so I can't have my shutters and curtains open at night as the bedroom lights up like a bordello.

It's just constant selfishness, my property isn't the staging area for their bloody lifestyle. It just boils under the surface.

If it's a one off - put the bin back and align your bins back to back with theirs and leave it. If they start to do it consistently, I'd put a note through the door telling them it's crowding your drive and inconveniencing you, and if they ignore that, I'd start filling their bin with your rubbish because you're confused. 😅

You told me to bring up dialect and colloquialism on threads because “it might be interesting” in your reply which I was replying to.

ZenNudist · 06/09/2024 07:06

Build a bin store up to the boundary line so it's clear where your 3 bins go. You could ask if they want to go halves on a joint one on their side as well.

cookiebee · 06/09/2024 07:08

Mumsnet is such a weird place, the OP asked a question, and from very early on in the thread this casual bitchiness took over. The way you are all behaving is quite topical, your all doing that thing we have recently seen in that Blake Lively and Parker Posey interview, where they ignore the interviewer and start their own passive aggressive conversation, sorry your thread got highjacked by bellends @alwwyd

And you’d rather not because you feel that your interests are petty, snobby and classist?

ShinyNewMe · 06/09/2024 07:23

None is pronounced nun
Non is pronounced non

I didn't know that and I always done good at English.

TeaAndCakeFTW · 06/09/2024 07:28

Just get a little fence in the gravel. You can get those border or boundary markers that you poke into the ground.

It’s not an interest - it’s something I studied years ago. Bringing it up on a thread to correct someone else would indeed be petty, snobby and classist hence why I don’t do it 😘 sorry you’re struggling to keep up.
