To think this level of pettiness is embarrassing?

My next door neighbours are just very inconsiderate people. They need their own thread.

Our houses are attached but we have separated driveways with a clear line of gravel between them and a partial hedge.

We both keep our bins on the driveway and today I’ve gone out to put my bin back and they’ve shoved my (different) bin and placed their bin on my driveway. I moved it back and it’s heavy so it didn’t blow across.

I know this is a none thread, but it does annoy me how petty some people are. Like just why do it? 🙄 anyone have other petty neighbour stories?

(yes I’ve been sad enough to go a diagram)

But that's what the law requires. You are allowed to trim any plants belonging to your neighbour that encroach on your own garden, but you must return all the trimmings since they belong to the owner of the plant.

Thats not the law. You have to OFFER the cuttings back, but just putting them back without offering is actually fly tipping.

Autumnismyfavouritetimeofyear · 03/09/2024 20:39

Maybe they moved it to do something and forgot to move it back. But yes, it is a dick thing to do. BTW - best diagram ever!

for the record… no one actually cares.

do you feel like a smarty pants now?

OP there must be a back story because it does seem rather petty but I can relate, I use to have nightmare neighbours!

For the record, some people were confused by what the OP meant.

So I feel helpful, not smart.

How would you pronounce the two words differently from each other? I'd say non for both.

Yes, this is the northern English (and presumably other places) way. I'm originally from the South and they sound like done/don.

OurFlossy · 03/09/2024 21:26

Hey up, I’m in the frozen north and about to go to the foot of our stairs because of ‘nun’ and ‘non’? Who knew?
Here ‘non’ and ‘none’ both rhyme with ‘gone’ (and ‘scone’).
OP, the bin is on your land and has adopted you. Enjoy. Sneak another until your neighbour has none (non/nun).

alwwyd · 03/09/2024 18:32

I did my diagram wrong! Well I didn’t make it obvious. I’ve updated it now.

It’s nothing to do with access, they’ve just purposely pushed my bin out the way randomly to place their bin on my driveway (a bin that doesn’t get collected for another week)

I liked your first diagrams. When you clicked between them the boxes moved into place.

This updated one makes it look like they don't like how their bin smells so they've put it in front of your front door?

takealettermsjones · 03/09/2024 16:22

That is odd. Your hedge looks like Casper the Friendly Ghost. I like it. 😊🤣

I don't understand any of this thread, but thanks for pointing out that's a hedge as I couldn't for the life of me figure out what it was

Still none the wiser about the rest of it. The neighbour put her bin on the OP's drive but it was very heavy?

OriginalUsername2 · 03/09/2024 21:59

I like your diagram!

I wish there was a gallery of all the diagrams.

UhHuhHuH · 03/09/2024 22:03

Very much enjoyed the diagram.

What you need is an actual amphibious/reptilian type fence (as depicted), then they can’t pull this shit anymore.

@5128gap Without derailt -
None is pronounced nun
Non is pronounced non

I've only ever heard 'none' pronounced in a way that it rhymes with gone.

user1471462634 · 03/09/2024 22:34

Could it be the dustbin men placing the bin back as they're not conscientious of which house it's come from??

I've had my neighbour's bin before & they've had mine even though it's got my house number on it, I know it's not my neighbour doing it on purpose.

I hope to goodness your scone doesn't rhyme with gone. Unless you meant to pronounce it as scon. Scone should rhyme with bone.

Non and none are the same as nun 😀

Still loving the green casper (just to keep the thread on track).

It's not incorrect to pronounce none the same as non though it's just different from the way it is pronounced in the south. Just as it is not incorrect to pronounce bath with a short instead of as though it has an additional r as in barth.
The way if speaking in the south east is not automatically 'the correct way"
(Sorry to derail your post OP)

Whattodo1610 · 03/09/2024 22:54

My scone rhymes with gone. As do non and none.
scone
gone
non
none
ALL RHYME 😂😂

@MasterBeth

The prefix "non-" means "not" or "the opposite of."

The word "none" means "not any".

It's on Mumsnet that I first saw this confusion and I guess it comes from people who pronounce these two words the same.
How condescending. Pretty sure I’m not personally responsible for the confusion of others’ understanding just because of how I speak 🤨 🤨

OurFlossy · 03/09/2024 23:07

Nah, you’re not talking proper @LittleGreenDragons! 😂
Yeah, scon, as in the bus’s scon - I’ve just missed it - or would you say “The bus has scoan”?
😂
”Nun”: a woman who has dedicated her life to religious service and contemplation, usually living in a monastery or convent.
Nowt to do with non or none. Hecky thump, LGD!

JennySayQuoi · 03/09/2024 23:46

I would wheel their bin to the next street, put my own back where it was, and then disclaim all knowledge if they ask where their one is.

Edited

I don’t think they were honey.

They just didn’t understand what the thread was about or the bin the drama - no one was confused about non vs none. And I’m with the other northerners - they’re pronounced the same!

I’m enjoying a cup of tea and toasted tea cake while having a scroll. Your post really did make me laugh out loud, not something that usually happens to me!

Balloonhearts · 04/09/2024 09:56

They probably just moved it to get to something or to manoeuvre something big into or past the car and forgot to put it back. I doubt it would be deliberate, what's the point?

Sexyshrek · 03/09/2024 16:54

I cut back all the brambles that are creeping into my garden from the neighbours side and placed the cuttings neatly on her side next to the fence. She then went out and pulled the heads off all the dandelions in her grass and checked them into the middle of my garden 🤨 Incredibly petty but it did make me laugh.

To be honest I would have just put the odd bramble in my own bin. Hardly take up any room.

BurntBroccoli · 04/09/2024 11:14

Maybe a teenager moved it to get a ball or something?

herecomesautumn · 04/09/2024 11:40

@PuddlesPityParty How rude

BobbyBiscuits · 04/09/2024 11:49

I had these really snobby neighbours. They used to leave their garbage bags (we don't have Wheely bins) alongside my railings, even though their house was three times the size with railings all across the other side.
When I wrote a note politely asking them not to. They got their cleaner (yes they had a live in cleaner) to dump three massive sacks full of used cat litter on my fucking doorstep!!
I got my revenge by blocking their planning application so they lost money on the sale. New neighbours are absolutely lovely!
