“There’s no way you can be pregnant without symptoms”

DH and I are due to start IVF soon for unexplained infertility. While we wait, we are still TTC and recently had a HyCoSy (standard precursor to IVF at my clinic), which we were told can increase our chances of conception a bit as it does flush things through.

Best friend knows about our situation and I mentioned that I was feeling hopeful this month. Can’t test yet as AF is not due for another 4 days. She asked if I had experienced any symptoms (I haven’t), to which she said there is absolutely no chance in hell of a pregnancy if I haven’t noticed any symptoms by now. She then launched in to a long rant about how she had every symptom under the sun before her missed period and I’d just “know” if I was.

Am I being totally stupid in holding out hope? I’ve never been pregnant, but didn’t think it was uncommon for the first and only symptom of early pregnancy to be a missed period? 🤷‍♀️

Your friend is being a total arse. She doesn’t sound like much of a friend really, if she’s saying that to you??

I did have some symptoms leading up to the missed period but not everyone does. I did have twins though, I never know if that kicked things in to gear quickly. Every single pregnancy is different, even with the same woman. Good luck, OP.

What a nasty 'friend' she is. How does she explain all the thousands of women out there who didn't know they were pregnant and suddenly give birth?

Wowjustwow99 · 03/09/2024 20:50

Your so called friend is a dick!

I was waiting for IVF, told we would never get pregnant naturally. The day we were meant to get our schedule I took a test and I was pregnant!

I had 0 symptoms, I have everything crossed for you and so should your dick of a friend!

We are meant to support each other, I would rethink the friendship. 🤞💝

@Lemongrassays When are you going to take a test?

My friends mother had a baby when she thought she was menopausal. Had no pregnancy symptoms (she had four children). Jo came into work concerned because mum had gone to A&E with stomach pains and she’d not heard from her. About Q10.30 am dad rang to tell Jo she had a baby brother. So no, not everyone gets symptoms, good luck with everything

My dd in law had no symptoms until she went into labour.. and even then she didn’t know what it was, she thought she was having severe stomach pain and went into a&e where they told her she was having a baby (it was her first) she still had periods and everything.

She's talking rubbish. My mum had no symptoms - her periods stopped, doctor told her it was just her age, and she had no idea she was pregnant until 6 weeks before I was born. She just assumed she was putting on weight because of the menopause.

I just knew but I didn't really have symptoms before missed period.

I did crave some food I don't even like though (couldn't eat it lol) and was extra emotional but I think that was the week before I even got pregnant hahaha
