To ask divorce lawyers if they’re worth the money?

Going through a nasty divorce with difficult ex.
just had yet another bill for £££s when it has basically been a few letters between solicitors.

now I know people have to eat and training is expensive, but almost £500 for a quick letter requesting an update?

I’d like to know (truthfully!!) from solicitors - are you worth the money?

I think a lot sell themselves on how they can get a great settlement for you, but in truth, the end result depends mainly on the whim of the judge. They also can’t get you something you aren’t entitled to. If you manage to agree, isn’t that just down to how reasonable both you and the other side is?

It completely depends. Most people don’t have the first clue how the legal system works and will do themselves out of a fair settlement by trying to do things themselves in all but the most amicable divorces. On the other hand, if your main goal in divorce is revenge or “taking them to the cleaners”, you’re likely to be disappointed with your settlement regardless of the capability of the solicitor. I think all my colleagues are worth the money for the knowledge they have and the work they do; that doesn’t mean the client will always think they’re worth the money for the result they don’t like.
