Have realised that we never do. Either I go with Dd, 6 or Dh will nip to the shops for the odd bits needed or I will do the big shop on some Saturdays whilst Dd stays with Dh.
Is that weird, seems a bit sad

Family shopping trips should be banned. One of the few good things in the pandemic was one way aisles and one adult per household.

Absolutely hate being stuck on a go around with somebody else's screaming toddler following me from the fruit & veg aisle, all the way to beauty products in Aisle 25. Just ruining my own escape from feral offspring at home.

The world doesn't revolve around you.

I don't think pp suggested it did. 🫣

The PP literally said family shopping trips should be banned, because they don't like toddlers in supermarkets. That's the definition of wanting the world to revolve around you.

No, it isn't.
PP isn't the only one to express that view.

And so what if PP isn't the only one to express that view? It doesn't make it correct!

If you don't want to see kids in public, stay home. That's a you problem.

Thevelvelletes · 02/09/2024 23:19

Perhaps not if running amok and using Asda as an adventure playground then it is an issue.
Not for the first time a child has near smacked their face off my trolley by running around.

None of the views are 'correct' because they're all just opinions.
I have no issue with children in general, as stated several times.

Auburngal · 03/09/2024 06:20

I have been tripped over by a kid who was running with a basket which was being glided on the floor. If I was elderly then there would be serious injuries.

Another time, a kid was running whilst pushing a basket wheel stand. These are not for anyone’s use bar shop staff! He clipped me on my shin and had a bruise.

Auburngal · 03/09/2024 06:22

Parents - shops are not playgrounds!

If your children want to run around and ride on their scooters, there’s a place for that - OUTSIDE!

Plus your DC have no rights to ride their scooters in shops.

flyinghen · 03/09/2024 11:09

Can't think of anything worse we get an online delivery and the times that I accidentally forget to book one I dread taking both the kids (1 and 4). It has to be done sometimes but it's shit from start to finish. Thank god for online deliveries!

@Devilsmommy No, I meant weird that we don’t do it as a family

I don't know anyone who does this as a family. I do it on my own.

Presumably the shop are happy to have them used since they are literally there for children to use.

My child doesn’t barge around the shop ramming them into people, she walks beside me happily pushing her trolley with all our fruit in it. If someone barges into her because they don’t think she deserves her space to be respected then they are just as much of a hazard and an annoyance as a rowdy child running about. Being older doesn’t exclude people from being rude arseholes sometimes.

Not sure how someone with sight issues is really relevant or my problem, there’s no difference my child walking beside me or walking beside me with a trolley. Unless you think she’s not allowed to walk in the shop at all, I don’t understand what point you’re making?

Edited

Just because your child uses them properly doesn't mean other children do.
Lots of children run with them or crash them in to people or displays. They are totally unnecessary and create an extra hazard for staff moving heavy cages (obviously your child doesn't but she really does)

Jesus, so many people here seem to actually hate other people's children. I wish I had some toddlers to take shopping now. 😆

I'm disabled and use a walker and have no issue with people going shopping as a family. It’s completely a normal thing and I hope no-one is put off by the people on this thread.

I agree. If huge swathes of the population are persuaded to abandon real shops and stick to online delivery only, then sooner or later the millionaires who run the real shops will decide it isn't cost effective to run them any more. We won't have any real shops or high streets any more, we'll just have warehouses and delivery vans and that will be a hell of a lot worse for society than having to wait a little bit because there's a toddler pushing a miniature trolley in a supermarket aisle.

Thevelvelletes · 03/09/2024 21:07

Nope won't happen, millions of pounds of impulse buys bought in store.

Thevelvelletes · 03/09/2024 21:09

I shouldn't have to dodge a child playing at shops whilst doing my shopping.

Not if everyone starts ordering online.

Thevelvelletes · 03/09/2024 21:15

Because supermarkets are going to close and miss out on millions of pounds on impulse buys ... don't be ridiculous we are not heading for 💯 online shopping.
