Well done, it's how I was brought up. I have tried medium, and it's less nice imo.
For a while I actually wouldn't order steak in a restaurant, because there's such a culture of well done meat being some sort of travesty rather than a perfectly reasonable preference.

Blue, but only after a period of living in France in my early twenties. Prior to that I'd only ever had medium or well done, and rarer cooked meat was a revelation to me.

I'm not keen on sirloin, I prefer fillet steak, and I like it cooked à point.

I think the more fatty steak cuts develop more flavour if cooked to one step higher than you would usually eat fillet steak, but for cooking steak the choice is very individual!

Medium rare

Willoo · 02/09/2024 11:37

Medium rare or rare. Absolutely not well done in any circumstance

MakeMeATea · 02/09/2024 11:44

Medium to medium rare so long as it's pink all the way through.

GasPanic · 02/09/2024 11:44

There's always some sort of competition as to how rare people want to eat their steak and some people clearly see it as an achievement in their life.

I object to well done, because it does make the meat really tough and difficult to eat.

Good aged steak used to be quite hard to get in the UK, but now at most places the steak will be pretty decent.

Med rare. Rare is too bloody and more cooked is pointless. I can't eat much steak though. Only usually half a piece.

Crispy and Cremated. Because eating blood is disgusting.

Even the rarest and reddest of steaks is actually bloodless. Instead, what you're looking at is a combination of water, which makes up about 75 per cent of meat, and a protein found in muscle tissue called myoglobin.

I'm a vegetarian, but miss steak so much. Very rare!

CustardySergeant · 02/09/2024 13:16

Medium rare, so that it is succulent, soft and delicious.
