Why is this in aibu rather than chat?

Medium rare, on the rarer side. But cooked in a pan so hot that the outside is blackened.

I'd usually go for fillet though and have that rare to blue, but the outside still needs to be burnt (so far as possible).

H has to cook his steak separately to me as the weirdo likes the same level of rareness as me on the inside but with the outside barely cooked either?! That to me is what adds the flavour! His steak looks like old grey leather (he has his bacon the same 🤢).

I am medium.

On another note. I have always shopped at Sainsbury's but it's just too ridiculous now (yes even with a nectar card) . So I have done my last few shops in lidl. I bought some steaks - not opened yet so I have yet to experience sirloin from there but they look great in the packaging.

Which supermarket does a good steak in your opinion?

Aldi does great steaks, better than Lidl and roughly the same price 🙂. Lidl aren't bad though.

Blue or rare (depends where I am eating it!). Topped with some garlicky crevettes.

If I had a choice I'd prefer filet or rib-eye though.

Crispy and Cremated. Because eating blood is disgusting.

It's not blood.

mitogoshi · 02/09/2024 07:14

Seared, raw in the middle, just like all steak - bleu they call it

Lamb too. You can have that pink and juicy. Grew up on it being served tough and grey looking.

And some fish. I love Tuna in a restaurant, usually in France or Spain, that take a chunk of tuna and wave it over the hot plate. I don't have the courage to cook it myself like this with the fish bought in a fishmongers, but in a good restaurant
. Same with salmon.
My favourite meal.

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 02/09/2024 07:17

I grew up on well done dry chewy meat, rarely steak other than minute steak, unless my dad's mate who worked at Smithfield's had something 'on offer'.
I started working in restaurants firstly as a waitress at 15 then in the kitchens at 18 and learned to cook steak properly. I took my mum to the restaurant I worked in and we both had sirloin steak. She had hers well done I had mine rare, I persuaded her to try mine and she's never ordered a well done steak since! She tends to go med/rare but she kept saying she couldn't believe how soft and tasty it was, but she learned to cook from my gran who could create leather from anything

yes

Caerulea · 02/09/2024 07:19

Medium but high heat to have a char on the outside. But if it's a fillet, blue-rare with the same process but hotter & quicker. Imo sirloin doesn't work as well blue/rare, the flavour isn't as good down there.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 02/09/2024 07:25

Rare as can be because I don’t want to be eating it for hours.

HelenWheels · 02/09/2024 07:30

with garlic mushrooms most importantly.

spamandeggs · 02/09/2024 07:59

Absolutely love rare steak . I didn't think I would until my stepson introduced me to it in Spanish restaurant a few years back.Haven't looked back lol

IBegYourBiggestPardon · 02/09/2024 08:15

Medium rare

herecomesthesondodedoodoo · 02/09/2024 08:16

Blue. Because I like it that way.

ObliviousCoalmine · 02/09/2024 08:44

Just walk it through a warm kitchen.

Just walk it through a warm kitchen.

That takes me back.

My dad used to say "wipe its arse and walk it through a warm kitchen."

Rare

FatFilledTrottyPuss · 01/09/2024 22:37

The way my husband cooks it, medium rare but with so much garlic and pepper in such a hot pan it’s almost charcoaled on the outside and juicy red in the inside. With his peppercorn sauce, chips and tender stem broccoli 😋

That sounds amazing

KreedKafer · 02/09/2024 10:07

Rare/blue, because that's how I personally like it.

I find it weird that some people get so worked up about how other people like their steak, though. I wouldn't ever want my steak well-done, but it's no skin off my nose if that's how someone else likes it.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 02/09/2024 10:10

Blue

BashfulClam · 02/09/2024 10:12

Medium, I like it pink in the middle but not too red. If it’s well done it’s like an old shoe. MIL always eats it like that and last time we’re out for a meal her plate was sliding all over the table as she tried to cut through something a tough as a fire engine tyre. I changed DH from well done to medium. I have a friend who eats it blue but that’s a bit too raw for me.

BabaYetu · 02/09/2024 10:20

The vegetarians are on a go-slow this week.

Where are my fellow meat-swervers?
It’s a Monday, shouldn’t we be lecturing the OP that we prefer our steak still attached to a happy cow living its best life? Mentioning carbon footprint and animal welfare?

Mumsnet is usually po-faced on a Monday morning.

caringcarer · 02/09/2024 10:25

Grilled with a knob of butter on it. Medium rare.

Borninabarn32 · 02/09/2024 10:27

Rare, I hate tough overcooked Beef.
