Neighbours burning something

we live in a new build estate where most of our gardens back on to each other. My neighbour out the back is burning something ( I presume rubbish) and has been since the middle of the morning.
there’s big clouds of smoke coming across at least 4 other gardens mine included and it stinks!
AIBU to go around and ask them to stop? My house is now smelling of it even with the window shut and I know lots of us have children.

Yes of course ask them to stop. I bet there's some rules on the estate about bonfires. Especially if it's rubbish they're burning. I don't think it's legal even?
Do it politely and nicely, working on the assumption they simply didn't realise the amount of smoke and who it was effecting. Asking them how much longer it will go on for.
If it persists over time I guess speak to the council. But in an ideal world you don't want to get into disputes in an official sense. It can make it harder to sell your home.
