To have never noticed they're playing musical statues on Bluey opening titles?

My DH thinks it was incredibly obvious ... But I'm convinced he saw it on the internet and is passing it off as his own knowledge 😆

I don't think it's obvious until it's pointed out to you 🤪

I saw it mentioned online, and then watched it, and yes they are (apparently) playing musical statues, with then name of the mover being called out.

This.

Sorry OP. 😄

citysloth · 01/09/2024 08:17

I never noticed this either!

homeishere · 01/09/2024 08:17

Nope. Never noticed that either. Now clear as day.

Who pointed it out to you? Ha ha

It's is blindingly obvious .... When someone points it out 😂

I didn't see it either and DH was baffled as he said it was so obvious. Like you say, it is when someone points it out!

JustAMiddleAgedDirtBagBaby · 01/09/2024 08:22

Blindingly obvious.
No-one pointed it out.

Garman · 01/09/2024 08:22

It’s obvious and nobody pointed it out to me. They all stop moving in between, what did you think they were doing?!

TerrifiedandWorried · 01/09/2024 08:25

Definitely didn't need it pointed out 😂

Just dancing and taking the time to introduce the characters 🤷‍♀️

It’s why there’s an extended beat pause when the music stops and before they all the name. Drives me mad musically as it doesn’t happen on the beat, but that’s life.

BarbaraHoward · 01/09/2024 08:32

I'm pretty sure I only noticed at the live show when it was said explicitly, or at least it was more clear.

NuffSaidSam · 01/09/2024 08:34

I think it's quite obvious, particularly after you watch the episode where they play musical statues.

MasterBeth · 01/09/2024 09:00

I think it's blindingly obvious if you "see" it but reasonably avoidable if you don't.

A title sequence is not always created in the same narrative universe as the show. Characters can break the fourth wall and wave at the audience. Sometimes, you have a song or narration that explains the concept of the show.

So, if you see the title sequence as "characters dancing and calling out their names to introduce themselves", it doesn't need to have an "in universe" explanation. If you didn't notice they are playing musical statues, then your brain isn't searching for an answer to the question "what is going on here?" What's going on here is just "a title sequence."

Also, this isn't quite like a game of musical statues. Musical statues has random lengths of music between goes (it would be a pretty predictable game if it didn't!) More than one person can be eliminated between rounds. And there's not the rhythmic and uniform chanting of the name of the person who's out. This is a game of musical statues that is actually halfway to being a musical title sequence.

So, I can understand you not "getting" it. And I can understand your husband getting it immediately.

And that's my TED talk.

LoquaciousPineapple · 01/09/2024 09:18

Very obvious to me, and no one pointed it out! They all keep standing still when the music stops and the one who moves is called out. I don't understand how it's not obvious!

I thought they were just freeze framing because it was the titles. I didn't realise they were actually freezing themselves as characters. I did feel a bit stupid when it was pointed out.

PoliteOtter · 01/09/2024 09:36

I am with you OP. My DS said this to me the other day and I said “No, I don’t think so” very confidently.

I agree with this analysis 😂 In my experience of musical statues there is also far more anxious looking at the person with the tape recorder.

hookiewookie29 · 01/09/2024 10:34

My daughter pointed this out to me- she's 21( was watching it with minded children). And an extra instrument gets introduced after each character is 'out'

BarbaraHoward · 01/09/2024 10:36

I enjoyed your TED talk @MasterBeth !

1dayatatime · 01/09/2024 10:41

Never noticed it before but very clear now

user1471517900 · 01/09/2024 10:44

Apparently they're all talking dogs as well!

SewingBees · 01/09/2024 10:49

Very obvious. We play along with it in our house.

Me too. I also never noticed it but we’re not massive Bluey fans so never analysed it.

Procrastinates · 01/09/2024 11:01

I'm with those saying it's blindingly obvious. No one pointed it it out to me but it seemed pretty clear that's what they were doing. 😅 In this instance YABU I'm afraid. 😆
