NC for this trivial question that came up as part of a discussion with friends. I've NEVER watched porn, and I was the only person in the discussion (all female friends) that had never done so.

YABU: I've watched porn. I expect most women have at some point
YANBU: I've never watched porn either. You are not unusual

Oh you sweet summer child. This definitely exists. Not only can I imagine it, I have seen it (it didn't do it for me).

Oh everything "exists" but it isn't on the front page of porn sites, showing the gender bias and why we have an issue with misogyny. Men and women constantly shown men physically dominating, not ever being dominated, unless specifically searched for.

And I actually have tried to find men gagging, deepthroat (to prove my point) and it doesn't exist on popular sites like X Hamster or Porn Hub.

There’s nothing inherently wrong with consuming pornography, but a teenager accessing it and becoming addicted to it is a bit different from women in their twenties / thirties / forties enjoying it as part of down time. And as long as it’s consensual / legal etc

Astrak · 27/03/2025 10:43

Once, out of curiosity. That was many years ago. Never since.

I have because I am outspokenly anti porn and I was told on here that a) I was ridiculous for saying that anything “too bad” would be accessible by kids and b)that it was easy to find and identify ethical porn. Turns out that (a) it is. And (b) it isn’t.

There is loads of great erotica available. Fun to read-and to write.

Of course it is easy to find ethical porn. Just Google 'ethical porn' and voila.

What is accessible by kids is entirely down to parenting and their settings on WiFi and their consistency re checking phones. Many give their 11yr old a smart phone and off they go, not one safeguarding or common sense check at all.

@Gloriiawhat a lovely simple world you do live in!

CurlewKate · 27/03/2025 11:13

@AbstractsI did get your point. And I don’t actually care whether you believe me or not!

CurlewKate · 27/03/2025 11:14

@DeepOchreBearHow do you know what you watch is consensual?

I have watched plenty of porn but years ago. Doesn’t interest me now.

But what when you can't find a Farage look-a-like being force fed a dildo?
It doesn't cater to women in the same way it does men.

StrawberryDream24 · 27/03/2025 11:35

I just don’t want to watch people who are desperate enough to be paid to have sex with people they probably don’t even know, who are pretending to enjoy it.

While the porn industry is obviously heaviy affected by trafficking, exploitation, upbringing etc. I wouldn't say the (supposedly) non exploited big name actors and actresses (who often get involved in producing too) are "desperate".
They just know that they can make much better money doing that than they can in any other job they could get, and have decided the juice is worth the squeeze in terms of financial benefits.

The top net worth porn actors and actresses, for example, average 3-4 million dollars.

(Their images and videos will be around perpetually - which is rather fkg uncomfortable when their kids grow up - but again, they've decided the benefits outweigh the disadvantages, for them).

StrawberryDream24 · 27/03/2025 11:41

Obviously they are the minority, but even further down the pyramid, the actors and actresses are still making way more money than they could in regular jobs.

Dramatic · 27/03/2025 11:43

I've seen it because ex partners have shown me it but I've never sought it out because to be honest it repulses me.

@Gloriiawhat a lovely simple world you do live in!

You said ethical porn is hard to find. It isn't, google is your friend. It is indeed very simple.

CurlewKate · 27/03/2025 12:05

@GloriiaHow do you know what you find by googling is actually ethical?

CurlewKate · 27/03/2025 12:08

@StrawberryDream24there are a few individuals who make a lot of money. Not sure how that makes the industry OK?

Jennifershuffles · 27/03/2025 12:11

47 female and no - might be just us two OP!

When I was younger you'd have to have gone and bought it from a specialist shop I think and it seemed a creepy man thing. If I was young now I'd likely have looked for it as information - I did read a lot of books with lesbians in as a teen (I'm bi). I don't see the need for it now & don't want stuff like that on my search history!

God I hate that phrase, so condescending. You’re not cooler cos you saw dirtier things than another woman did.

DeepOchreBear · 27/03/2025 12:16

CurlewKate · 27/03/2025 11:14

@DeepOchreBearHow do you know what you watch is consensual?

We have this image that poor women are being forced to make pornography…that’s not the case, many women are making a lot of money doing something they chose to do. Especially if it’s solo / amateur / home-filmed.

Onlyvisiting · 27/03/2025 12:19

No. I think the porn industry is seedy and gross so wouldn't watch it because of that.
But have also never had any desire to as the thought of watching people have swx isn't remotely interesting or arousing to me. Just awkward and fake.

Mochudubh · 27/03/2025 12:20

Yes, but mostly 80s-style American stuff. Ron Jeremy rocking up at the door, wrench in hand, to fix a bored housewife's, ahem, plumbing. It was all the same actors and essentially the same scripts but pretty sure it was all consenting adults.

I haven't watched any recent porn but from what I hear about it being increasingly violent, strangulation etc, it's not something I want to watch. The thought that the women may have been trafficked also turns my stomach.

Gloriia · 27/03/2025 12:23

CurlewKate · 27/03/2025 12:05

@GloriiaHow do you know what you find by googling is actually ethical?

Well, what you do is you research it as you've researched other porn. So click one of the links for ethical stuff and read up on the companies.

Christwosheds · 27/03/2025 12:32

I’ve never watched it, and nor has DH. I was in a pub lock-in as a teenager in the 80s with small group of friends who’d taken us there, the creepy landlord put a porn film on while staring at me and my friend. She was facing the screen and when I saw her look shocked I turned round, it took me a minute to even work out what it was, as it was a close up of a penis going into a vagina, we were both under 18 and neither of us had even kissed a boy. We rapidly left the pub, it was horrible, lots of older men in there all gawping at the screen.
