To be irritated by mama for mum on social media

I’ve noticed celebrities and trendy women in their 40s and 50s refer to their mothers as mama instead of mum in social media posts. Where does it come from? They don’t actually call them that to their faces, so why post it on social media? Is it an American thing?

And don't get me started on Mama Bear

No idea. Are they all American? That might be a clue.

Ugh my MIL is from Nottingham and insisted she was called Mama when my DD was born. Now where I leave we call mummy mama. So that would have been mega confusing for my DD. I didn't give in and eventually she caved into being called grandma ;-)

My child calls me mama. I think she must have got it from nursery
