Chicken pox

I'm pretty sure my daughter has chicken pox, a couple of spots appeared on her torso yesterday and now there's more this morning. She's due to start school on Monday, AIBU to hope she'll be okay by then? She's been counting down the days 😞

No she wont be ok for Monday

As a side note, Do not give ibuprofen or anything containing it

You have to wait for them all to crust over before going to school so i would say the first week is off the cards for her

If it's chicken pox then no unfortunately she definitely won't be going to school on Monday. Spots come out for 3-5 days after the first spot and then you need to wait for them to all crust over.

She shouldn't attend school until all the spots have scabbed over. Roughly 5 days from the spots appearing so she probably won't be ok by then unfortunately.

Thank you, pretty much confirming my fears.

Sorry it's not the news you were hoping for but I'd definitely start preparing her for not going on Monday so she's got time to process the fact she won't be starting as expected. Also don't forget to ring the school on Monday and let them know why she's not there.

You’ve already been given the key advice.

Wait for all the spots to crust over. No ibuprofen. Poxclin was fab when my DDs had CP, oaty baths too. I found mine were cranky during the spotty phase but easily exhausted for weeks afterwards.

MagAmberson · 30/08/2024 13:12

Yes we've given calpol, though her temperature is only slightly raised. Thanks for the poxclin recommendation, I couldn't recall the name. I've told her that she may have some extra days of holiday at home with me next week if it doesn't clear up, she's fine but I know on Monday she'll be in tears as her sibling is fine to go back (so far!)
