On a website with cleaning tips, every single photo was of a woman doing the cleaning!

And not only this, but a very smiley woman! Who is that happy while scrubbing the floor! Am I being unreasonable to be annoyed at this continued narrative of a woman doing all of the cleaning, and not only that, loves doing it? On another website, they use cartoon pictures of cleaning tools, or the room etc, and it was very effective.

If you are a woman and enjoy cleaning, I envy you! Nothing wrong with it. But this just feels so outdated.

I've noticed TV ads for mops/cleaning products now appear to use male actors far more (at least some channel I was watching the other evening absolutely did), though they still wear that baffling look of wild enthusiasm as they steam mop or dust something with some special duster.

I do agree in general, though, that we've not moved quite far enough from those ads that appeared to present having a vagina as meaning you were naturally awake at night wondering how to get your DH's rugby team's strip white.

And don't start me on those NHS billboards specifically telling women to get their husbands to book a prostate exam. Yes, I absolutely get that men are typically less good at looking after their own health, but adult men's healthchecks should not be their wives' responsibility. It's hard to imagine NHS ads aimed at men, telling them to get their wives to book their smears, and nag them into attending.

Surely it makes much more sense to market the product at the people who are more likely to buy it and use it?

It's not the job of the marking department at Fairy liquid to change Society.
