To ask where is the best place to raise teens in the UK?

And why?

We have family dotted around in rural/semi/rural areas in Lancashire/Yorkshire and Southern Scotland. We currently live in London but would like to move to be closer to family and escape the rat race. I think a small city would offer the best of worlds and would suit teens best? Edinburgh seems like a good option but am keen to get recommendations for other places for us to scout out. Bonus points if your area would welcome outsiders like us and has a creative edge to it. Thank you.😊

Preston is a small city, nice rural places to live/walk very close, but many people choose to socialise in Manchester and Liverpool, so you might be better going more that way. Although Buckshaw village in Chorley is on the main train line to Manchester, so that might be a good option.

London. Excellent secondary schools. Lots of resources. Public transport for independence. Plenty of opportunity.

Bristol

I hadn’t thought of there - perhaps worth a look?

This. And diverse.

Anywhere they can fairly easily get to shops, decent nightlife, places their friends are otherwise they'll feel isolated. Plus near their school so they can stay at to do extra curricular activities if they choose to - more socialising.

OP - we want to leave London

PPs - London is the best place for you 🤣🤣

Try the coast, lancaster, grange or the other way towards Leeds

Chester is a lovely city, lively, history and near Liverpool and Manchester.
BTW would love to live in London!

York.
Brilliant place, very well connected. Drier than many other places. Close to the countryside, but also to Leeds, Sheffield etc. Traffic can be a nightmare, but where isn't these days.

Depends what your teens want out of life and enjoy doing.
As long as mine has access to a cinema and a branch of CEX she's happy.
