I’m glad they’re safe but £2.5k on a wedding dress?

Well I know I’m probably being a cow and what a horrific fire in London. I feel so very sad for people who have lost so much.

These guys do appear in shock but still £2.5k on a wedding dress and loans for a wedding? Wtaf why do people do this?

Well obviously some people pay ££££,s for weddings it wasent for me my wedding Was very small and my mums friend made my wedding dress
But for some it's all about the day .

SpanielPaws · 27/08/2024 21:17

Sounds like the start of a GoScamMe appeal........

themonkeysnuts · 27/08/2024 21:20

exactly @SpanielPaws

HappierTimesAhead · 27/08/2024 21:22

This is mean spirited. Plenty of people spend far more on their wedding dress. What is it to you?

EveSix · 27/08/2024 21:29

Seriously? You're being so mean.
It says they lost e v e r y t h i n g.
Including the wedding dress.
So what if they spent a lot of money on the dress and borrowed some money? Does that make them any less deserving of empathy after something as full-on as a massive fire?
Give your head a wobble.

Really mean.

They didn't start or cause the fire.

Many brides spend this amount on their dress. Is there a reason why this bride shouldn't have?

Something to look forward to, prob not insured wedding wise, folk have tough lives currently. Whether a cheap or expensive wedding dress, it held special meaning, and day
Of course the bigger issue is what caused the fire.

MonsteraMama · 27/08/2024 21:33

Well I know I’m probably being a cow

A self aware cow at least.

Their fucking home burnt down, they've lost all of their possessions, they're now homeless and you're making a bitchy thread about how much she spent on her wedding dress? The fuck is wrong with you? £2.5k isn't even out of the realms of normal for a wedding dress, loads of people spend the same or more.

I liked this post until I got to the last sentence 😂😂

OP, a lot of people spend that and more on wedding dresses. For the record, I didn't but don't judge those who do because it's a big and important celebration for them.

M0therBear · 27/08/2024 21:34

I don't think it's very kind to look at victims of this fire and decide to be judgmental. If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.

HappierTimesAhead · 27/08/2024 21:35

Can you imagine losing all your possessions in a fire and you share your experience with the BBC news only for someone to start a thread on mumsnet picking apart your life choices?

HauntedBungalow · 27/08/2024 21:36

Well they've lost their home in a fire.

I guess you win. OP.

RosesAndHellebores · 27/08/2024 21:37

If they had £2,500 to spend on a wedding dress, presumably they had some wedding insurance alongside their contents insurance.

CheerfulBunny · 27/08/2024 21:37

You can't tell people what they can spend their money on, surely?! How much would you feel is an acceptable amount for 'someone like that' to spend on a dress? You are being v unreasonable. No one's business but theirs and it's not for anyone fair to judge them. Poor buggers, I know what it's like to go through a disaster event like that, with reporters and Sky news trucks descending on you. It's horrible.

CheerfulBunny · 27/08/2024 21:39

And, yes you are being a cow to post this. Not like me to be sharp, but this makes me cross.

Talipesmum · 27/08/2024 21:40

OP this is an awful thing to say. Can you imagine losing everything in a fire, everything, and on top of everything, it’s your wedding in a couple of weeks and your dress you only just collected has burnt. So heartless and judgemental.

OneReformedCharacter · 27/08/2024 21:42

Some people like nice things OP. Why is that a problem for you?

Longfrock · 27/08/2024 21:42

I might think what you're thinking in passing, but goodness, these people have lost everything and have nowhere to live, and that's what you have to say about them?

I won't be contributing to any fund to replace the dress, but can't think of many worse situations to be in.

Prawncow · 27/08/2024 21:42

Yes, you are being a total cow, but not as big a cow as SpanielPaws.

There was a huge fire. It’s amazing that no one was killed. They’ve lost all their possessions at a time that they were already stretched with wedding expenses. If you can’t rustle up some empathy at least leave them be.

Haroldwilson · 27/08/2024 21:43

If you don't have much money, having your wedding as the one day you're pushing the boat out and not scrimping might feel important and dignified.

I wouldn't judge people for that at all.

It's horrible this has happened to them.

Winrus · 27/08/2024 21:44

People tend to spend what they can afford on a wedding dress. Yabu.

brightyellowflower · 27/08/2024 21:46

Well presumably if you're in the league of spending £2,5k on a dress you will wear once, you've done that after paying for house contents insurance and things that are actually important.

BlingaRinga · 27/08/2024 21:47

Wow. Of all the things you that could have stood out for you from that article THAT was the one?

Not the fact that so many years after Grenfell that so many homes are still unsafe.
Not that they didn’t hear a fire alarm.
Not that a fire exit was locked.
Not that all these people have lost their homes and belonging.

But the cost of a wedding dress?

Bloody hell get some perspective.

x2boys · 27/08/2024 21:51

I wasent having a go ,my wedding was very small and I didn't feel the need for an expensive wedding dress but that's just me I was pointing out that some people want o go all out on the wedding horses for courses 🤷‍♂️

stayathomer · 27/08/2024 21:52

Op I got married nearly twenty years ago and my dress was five hundred euro in a sale shop and the amount of people who asked did I need money to get a dress. All had spent thousands on dresses so I can’t even imagine what a dress costs now!! Hope things work out for them
