Why don't holiday cottage companies do these things? AIBU?

I have been searching for a holiday cottage for next year and so far haven't found the right one but FGS, why don't cottage companies:

  1. Show you a floor plan? I want to see where each bedroom is in relation to other bedrooms because of snoring etc
  2. Show you the bathrooms properly? I want a huge walk in shower and I want a separate attachment as well but you can hardly ever see whether there is one
  3. Insist on a 10am checkout and a 4pm or later check in? It's annoying and we sometimes leave the day before to avoid getting up early
I also won't empty bins or strip beds, I'm on holiday! AIBU? What are your self catering hates?

YABU, understandable, they CBA
YANBU, they really should provide this info

Shocking! This is where the industry needs regulation like in Scotland - a registration scheme to sign up to showing your holiday let is fully compliant. Hopefully it’s coming which means the dodgy hosts will have to shape up or ship out!

It would be easy enough for Airbnb etc to require a copy of an EICR as a bare minimum as a requirement to list without waiting for licencing to come in.

They have this week asked owners to upload their NIC or UTR numbers so that they can report earnings to HMRC. Judging by the horrified reactions on the Airbnb forums I suspect a fair few listings are going to be disappearing! Those who are dodging tax are probably the ones who are least likely to be concerned about guest safety.

Absolutely agree!

Just checked out of a big barn conversion, multiple families and one of our party has gone around and taken all the spare loo rolls. FGS who does that after being hosted and fed. Gets one up on the man by taking home £5 worth of loose loo rolls

Hope you won't be holidaying with them again!

I wonder why they think it is their business. Surely HMRC isn't trying to claim that the cottage owners are in some way employed by, or workers of, HMRC? That is usually why people ask contractors for their UTR number so you can't claim to be one of their employees but I wouldn't have thought that was an issue with AirBnB.

It’s so HMRC can cross check that the Airbnb hosts are declaring the profits. A bit like how HMRC now can get details of eBay sellers from eBay.

@AgileGreenSeal
Me too, I always look for one that specifies no pets. A sofa covered in dog hair or the idea of smelly dogs on the bed is disgusting

I own a holiday cottage, The amount of people who whine about the number of stairs is unbelievable, when the main picture of the house shows it is a victorian 4 story and it clearly says what it is. Also it states there is a small utility area and we had one person who moaned they couldn't leave their double buggy up, oh sorry we will knock a wall down into next door, I'm sure they won't mind. Some holidaymakers can be a pain in the proverbial though most are lovely.
