Uno reverse

I am neurodivergent and a stickler for rules.
I struggle playing games with my kids ( 12 ) if I feel that the rules are not followed .
A family game we try to play is uno BUT
AIBU to say that if there are only 2 players left and a player plays the change direction/ uno reverse card it is NOT the same as the miss a turn card . My reasoning is that whether you go clockwise or anti clockwise around the circle the other person is still next to go.

DS insists that the other person misses a turn and it completely ruins my enjoyment of the game to the point that I have to stop. It’s a shame. I have just tried to play for the sake of playing with my kids but I can’t.

The only way forward is to agree the rule and we will have to abide by it going forward. By the way cheating is fine ! Just not misinterpreting rules … I am who I am…. 😂

Mumsnet please referee this rule!

YANBU : in 2 player uno reverse card does not equal miss a go

YABU : reverse means the other player misses a go.

I’m with you op. It doesn’t mean miss a turn when there are 3 or more, just the person has to wait longer for their turn, so shouldn’t have any impact at all when 2 are playing.

User478 · 27/08/2024 10:02

Play just changes direction, no miss a turn.

But Mattel says this isn't right* and the miss a turn people are correct (they aren't)

*They also say you can "bounce" +2s and miss a turns so they are obviously wrong!

We miss a turn here, also stack + cards

Mattttttt · 27/08/2024 10:10

It's literally written in the rules by the people who make the game - when there are only 2 players, the reverse card causes the other play to miss their turn. If you are the one who is a stickler for the rules, then there they are 😀 I'm afraid your DS is right.

CrimsonShades · 27/08/2024 10:15

I’m with your husband. Once the player plays a card the turn passes to you. But the effect of the card is that gameplay is reversed, so it goes back to the person who played the card.

The rules don’t specifically provide for what happens in a two player game so I guess technically neither of you are right or wrong. Hopefully for the sake of marital harmony you can find a solution! Maybe just remove all the reverse cards from the pack and avoid the issue entirely…

ThatsNotMyTeen · 27/08/2024 10:15

I think if there are 2 players then you do have to miss a turn, otherwise there’s no point in the reverse. Sorry!

DappledThings · 27/08/2024 10:17

I thought this was going to be about the annoying thing throughout DS(8)'s school where if you ask any of them (mainly the boys it seems) to do anything they don't want to they hold up an imaginary card and shout "UNO reverse".

Has that spread?

toastofthetown · 27/08/2024 10:18

As above, there’s no need for MN to referee it; it’s clearly in the rules how a reverse card works in a two player game, and that’s to skip a go.

CrimsonShades · 27/08/2024 10:18

I take it back! The rules have a footnote - a reverse acts as a skip in a two person game.

This is hopefully happy news for you OP, if you’re a stickler for the rules you can be relieved that they provide for this exact situation!

We play the way it says on the picture as in the person who puts the reverse down in a 2 player game goes again basically

Our other ways we play
If someone puts a +2 the next player puts +2 so the next either puts +2 down or picks up 4

Same with +4

Whatever Mattel say goes. Them's the rules! They write the rules! You literally posted the actual rules!

"With just two players, a Reverse skips the other player, letting you take another turn."

Honourspren · 27/08/2024 10:27

We miss a turn in a 2-player reverse.

We also stack +2s and +4s, but for some reason never the miss a turn card.

olympicsrock · 27/08/2024 13:08

So this is really helpful. Thank you! I hadn’t found this.
It seems that DS is correct and these are the rules. Might not make sense to me or some others but as these are the rules I will stop seething and accept that he is right
Who knew??!
