So a friend and myself where out for a walk other night and stumbled across paper work evidently from a social services depot in another county we are handing this to police today but this paperwork has names address emails dob phone numbers children's circumstances etc all detailed ie pip reviews lac minutes etc plus a disciplinary for an individual who looks like they are being sacked and have dumped these in an underpass out of retaliation we are obv going to hand this in a'd only reason haven't is police station was closed due to bank holiday but this is goi'g to get someone in a lot of bother has anyone ever came across this before

Could It have been lost off the back of a lorry etc if it was near the road?

redtrain123 · 27/08/2024 07:31

Certainly an unusual find! Is it stuff that’s been sent to a person, or. Confidentially social services stuff?. If the latter, then someone will be in Big trouble. If the former, I guess you’re allowed to dump your own stuff (but why not shred it?)

The most I’ ve found us a bag of porn ( in pre-internet days).

TruffleDaisy · 27/08/2024 07:31

Sounds like you had a good ole look through of all the documents?!

But it's none of your business what happens really, and I'm confused why you'd hand them to the police.

Surely council offices would be better placed, even if the paperwork was from a differing county.

Was left scattered at a pedestrian underpass

In in a different county and glanced through more like not read every word as suggested should have just left them there for someone else to find and do far worse

Stolen bag containing papers, thief emptied contents of bag out and took the bag by the sounds of it.

Really bad practice carrying paper documents, confidentiality breach risk high.
Might have been reported to the police, may have been an assault and theft so police is the right place in that case.
I think you are doing the right thing and have acted responsibly to protect that private information rather than leave it blowing in the wind op.

2Old2Tango · 27/08/2024 07:37

From the amount of detail it sounds like you had a good read of the documents first. You should have stopped as soon as you noticed personal details. If it's from SS then there must be some headings on the paper for you to determine it's official stuff and from another county. Why did you feel it necessary to be so nosey?

MissUltraViolet · 27/08/2024 07:37

Odd thing to find in such a random place.

Perhaps someone had their car broken into/bag snatched and the thief dumped anything they weren't interested in after legging it?

CleopatrasBeautifulNose · 27/08/2024 07:38

That's awful.
However they got there those are the personal identifying details of vulnerable people.
Whether the info was dumped deliberately or not that's just horrific, the information could have been found by people without good intentions.

I would want what happened to be properly looked at and I think that means making it publicly known it's been found to the local paper too. A complaint of massive gdpr breach too

Looking at top of page you can tell each document from title and guess from there what in them it not rocket science and anyone with half a brai' can work it out from titles on the top of the page

Something as serious as this should be investigated so don't shred, and it's not your information to shred anyway.
Get it back to where it belongs but make it so they can't just pretend it didn't happen.

Come on, you've done more than 'glance through'.

Just ring the relevant SS this morning and ask them what they would like you to do.

I glanced through and I have enough brain cells to work out what's in these documents without the need to read every word as I am guessing you would have done or you would have gone visiting probably

Interesting most people think they wouldn't have looked. I bet most people would have a good look through, other people's lives are fascinating. And yes hand in to police, they should know the best people to handle the papers. Good of you to pick them all up, they could be important to someone, I agree probably unwanted bits from a robbery, bag snatch or car break in.

I think those kind of confidential documents are shredded before they are disposed of. Well, I’d like to think that.

Oh yes I'd have ensured to read every page and then 'gone visiting'.

Maybe hand it to your parents and let them deal with grown up things?
