I think she has a sibling called Light who can do no wrong. That's why she is so upset by her more negative name.

Heatherjayne1972 · 27/08/2024 07:25

I once met a 35 year old woman called Baby
her parents couldn’t think of a name so just called her Baby

I prefer more standard names, so I would have gone for Standard Lamp.

The picture on that article!Grin I wonder what they are saying.

The picture is just a stock photo. There's no actual photo of "Shaide" because the whole article is based on a probably made up post on a reddit thread about shit names.

That's journalism Daily Mail style.

ReadWithScepticism · 27/08/2024 07:31

Yeah, I know it's a stock photo. Those always look ridiculous but in this case it is particularly ridiculous because of how bad it is, and because of how daft the story is.

Princessfluffy · 27/08/2024 07:34

Lleh is Neaveh's twin

Princessfluffy · 27/08/2024 07:35

Oops spelling fail nevaeh

NeverDropYourMooncup · 27/08/2024 07:36

secretrugbyfan · 27/08/2024 04:44

I would imagine all the people called Billy must be a bit pissed knowing they're named after a bookcase.

As for names (for twins) I know of a Rogan and Josh as well as an Aston and Martin.

But I think the award for the worst name must go to the parents that called their daughter Female, pronounced Fee-mar-lay.

Edited

You know that was a US TV show, don't you? Hill Street Blues in about 1982, the character saying that her parents had run out of ideas after 12 children.

JustPaySomeone · 27/08/2024 07:37

I work with a lot of people from an African heritage. There are plenty of names like
Blessing, Gift, Precious, Sunny, Happy etc. Just worth pointing out, before laughing at these kinds of names.

BreatheAndFocus · 27/08/2024 07:38

Fiction - and not even a very funny fiction at that.

Wouldn't bother if I were you. These threads always carry an undercurrent (or overcurrent) of 'Names chosen by parents who aren't white middleclass British are stupid' with the occasional concession to the Apples and Zowies of the world.

PuggyPuggyPuggy · 27/08/2024 07:58

What gets me about the "It's HEAVEN but spelled backwards!" crowd is - well, cool, so what's the deeper meaning here? Your kid is kinda like heaven, but the opposite? So like hell? Is it to do with satanism, like hanging the cross upside-down, or the supposed satanic messages you hear if you listen to heavy metal songs backwards?

I've never had the chance to ask 😆

Yes, and ditto the DM. "Names from other cultures are so hilarious, tee-tee" ...🙄

scalt · 27/08/2024 08:14

I thought the name was going to be Tiffany. I haven’t read the article.

But some of these names are girls names and some are boys or can be both

I do know of a guy called a really old lady name
He was very embarrassed about his name but he wouldn’t change it as it would upset his mum

That's a really over used name now ,when I was pregnant with my oldest ( he's 18 at xmss) i used to watch maury ( American show similar to Jeremy Kyle) and loads of the guests would proudly announce they has called their child Nevaeh,an then say That's Heaven spelt backwards as though they were the first to come up with it.

I heard a mum call out to her son in Dunelm Mill last week, kids name was Placid. People are barmy.

It could have been worse, it could have been "flaccid" 😂

StarsBeneathMyFeet · 26/08/2024 22:53

I saw an article recently about a boy who was called Table. He was begging his parents to let him change it!

I read this. The kid wasn’t named Table. It was a name LIKE table.

HelpMeGetThrough · 27/08/2024 08:30

Sibling of Viagra and Cialis.

Mountainpika · 27/08/2024 08:31

Wonderful thread!

As to the African names - Blessing, Gift, Precious, Sunny, Happy - they're beautiful names, and to me convey such love of the child.

(Wanders off around the house to see whar she can change her name to......)

katepilar · 27/08/2024 09:00

UABU for thinking its obvious where the name Shaide came from. There are so many names and its /stupid/ spelling variations that its impossible to tell. Could have easily be a real name.

Mountainpika · 27/08/2024 09:02

A head teacher I worked with had taught a child with the surname Cart. His parents had given him the first name Orson.

6pence · 27/08/2024 09:03

What about Michael Jackson’s son - Blanket!

And the Magic FM’s presenter who talks about his sons Thunder and Lightening. Nice guy but I always cringe when he mentions them.

I think that was a nickname and hes actually Prince Michael?
Which is questionable in its self.

JimberlyMcJimbleFace · 27/08/2024 09:15

Could be worse - look what I'm stuck with.

x2boys · 27/08/2024 09:19

I'm just waiting for somebody claiming they know a child called La-a known as Ladasha
Or a Guy known as Gooey
