I’m guessing the DM have fallen for a troll post on Reddit looking at the article.

I heard a mum call out to her son in Dunelm Mill last week, kids name was Placid. People are barmy.

For a moment I misread that as that you'd heard a mum had called her kid Dunelm Mill.

Dunelm sounds like an early English saint's name but isn't.

Luckynotlazy · 26/08/2024 23:31

I prefer Shay-Dee
or Shàede
or to make it original and cute Shaydi
Shaide is ok but 2 syllables sound better.

I have a friend she’s lovely but chooses the most extravagant unique names I’m not even sure I can post them as I doubt anyone else has the same !

JohnTheRevelator · 26/08/2024 23:32

I thought it was going to say she'd actually named her 'Lampshade'. 😂😂😂

feileacan · 26/08/2024 23:34

Remember Sade, pronounced Sha day? Great singer, great music and a very glamorous woman. "Your love is king" great song.

TealPoet · 26/08/2024 23:34

Robin Hobb has a character named chade which I think is pronounced shade. It’s not the worst name by a long shot although I don’t see what’s wrong with the standard spelling.

Names are tricky I think. I have a standard name by I don’t like it. I don’t like its origin, I don’t like who it links to, but it’s ‘normal’ so people don’t usually understand why I don’t like it.

Could have been worse. Lamp. Bulb. Flex. Switch. Even worse if she'd been in the bathroom at the time. Plughole. Soap. Shower. Toilet...............

Reminds me of Harry Enfield's Wayne and Waynetta Slob characters,on discovering that she was pregnant with a girl. They were discussing names and he said 'What about Ashtray?'. She says 'We can't call her Ashtray. That's a boy's name'.

A memory just popped into my head. My dad is a huge aviation buff and I remember him saying that Bill Lear, the designer of the Learjet, named his daughter Shanda!!!!

Took me a second!

I think it was on here - a thread about inappropriate names where a teacher said she had a boy in her class called Blessing..... and he wasn't.

And my mum's arsehole.😁

Oh I don’t mind Neveah. Stupid meaning, but the name itself is fine. There’s one in DS’s class, she seems like a very sweet little girl.

Oh, that's dark, since Heaven is meant to be about light.

I recently met a little boy called Image. I don't know his exact ethnic background, but he is exotic-looking and gorgeous, and speaks English as an additional language. I thought I'd misheard and he had a name from a different culture, such as Imaj. No, it's Image, as in picture.

LutonBeds · 27/08/2024 00:29

MrsClatterbuck · 26/08/2024 23:23

Saw that as well. Poor child. Tbh I hope it isn't true.

It isn’t. They didn’t put the real name as it would be identifying and used ‘Table’ as an example as he was named after a household object.

Garlicfest · 27/08/2024 00:36

Neveah looks like it should be pronounced Nivea ... which is not a bad name, as it goes 😄

I don't see why Placid shouldn't be a boy's name, seeing how popular Placido is in Latin countries. Mind you, so is Jesus. You'd only get away with that in English if you spelled it Hessoos (and you wouldn't get away with that ..!)

FGSChargethecarregularly · 27/08/2024 00:42

If it was my name I would make the most of it

” it’s pronounced Plufole. The gh takes the f form as in cough,”

” it’s pronounced Pluole. The gh is silent as in daughter .”

“it’s pronounced Plugole. The gh takes the g form as in gherkin.”

We have a Placid and a Landing at my son's primary. It's a very multicultural school though so I expect these are probably common names elsewhere.

So did I! 😆😆

A new low in the baby naming craziness that would have been!
