I’ve definitely seen Catherine referred to in print as Middleton as I remember thinking no one referred to Diana as Spencer.

Do you mean she's had her name Middleton said alongside Kate or Catherine? So Catherine Middleton or Kate Middleton? As yes pretty sure I've seen that before but never have I seen her referred to as just Middleton!
Can you imagine "Prince William and Middleton" it just doesn't happen.
It's so rude.

LoneHydrangea · 26/08/2024 14:47

I think it's a modern thing. Kate is stuck as Kate Middleton and Meghan is still known as Meghan Markle.

It's odd.

I don't think they will ever get Catherine to stick. She was in the public eye as Kate for so long and it is firmly entrenched, apart from a few forelock tuggers doing what they're told. Catherine might be deemed more queenly, but the name Kate has stuck.

It is rude.
The only time it was ok was before the wedding when M&S changed their name to Markle and Spencer’s! (Which I liked a lot!)

(and of course was completely different than how people refer to her).

Just referred to as Middleton nothing else. The article was only about her. It was ridiculous and rude.

When was the last time you saw Kate referred to as "Middleton" in comments that are negative towards her?

It was a tedious and pretentious article in the Guardian (or Observer).
They think they're radical when they're just being rude.

She's referred to reverently as Catherine .

😂😂

Does anyone know what was the point of the Columbia visit? I mean, UK Gvt uses RF visits for soft diplomacy, deepen relationships, build trade and other links, the country benefits from media attention which highlights those benefits raises profile and legitimacy. But that doesn’t hold of course for Columbia as it isn’t official- so what did Columbia get? Press coverage? To what end, tourism? And it’s not the safest country, so how concerned really were Harry and wife about security? And assume Columbia paid for the trip expenses, did Harry and wife get paid a personal appearance fee too? (Kinda like TOWIE slebs appearing at the Sugar Hut for £500 and waving at the crowd…?)

Nadeed · 26/08/2024 15:35

@SurferRona Just google it. There was a clear purpose.

Corinthiana · 26/08/2024 15:36

It was a good opportunity for headlines and photographs. They need to keep their profile high, even if it's controversial.
So: publicity.

  • Harry and Meghan, Duke and Duchess of Sussex, arrived in the Colombian capital of Bogotá on Thursday, for a visit to support initiatives that protect children from online harm. The four-day visit came together following an invitation from Vice President Francia Márquez, the first Afro-Colombian to hold executive powers.
Márquez also reiterated the importance of the Invictus Games, launched by Prince Harry a decade ago, saying the couple will meet the Colombian delegation on Friday. “Colombia is the only country in Latin America taking part in these Games and we’re preparing for the next edition to be held in Canada in 2025,” she added.

"online harm"?
They were there to get publicity for themselves. They have to get the headlines and the photos.
A quasi royal tour is controversial, but it'll do the job of keeping the tabloids interested - critical for them.

cheezncrackers · 26/08/2024 15:43

”When I was eleven blah blah blah, women all over America fighting greasy pots and pans blah blah blah, wrote to Proctor and Gamble blah blah blah, people all over the world fighting greasy pots and pans blah bloody blah” A day in life of Prince Harry 🙇😩

Nadeed · 26/08/2024 15:44

@Corinthiana maybe read a bit before questioning online harm as if it is a stupid idea.
The concern is that in many countries like Colombia children spend more time online than many western countries, but there is way less research or support to tackle online harm than there is in western countries. If you need to understand the harm children can suffer online maybe read NSPCC resources on this on their website?

I wonder where they’ll go to next? I doubt a continental European country, they’ve done Africa and South America. Maybe an Eastern European country.

I was thinking she might need to model cold weather clothing. I was thinking maybe Poland or the Czech Republic.

Its a milisecond snap, impossible to judge meaning from them.
And you are unreasonable because what possible concern is it of yours?

As much as I like the name Catherine she is Kate to me (I also love that name). Catherine seems so stiff having known her as Kate for so long. Whereas I see Catherine Zeta Jones as Catherine.

I never said online harm was a stupid idea. How ridiculous.
How about you actually read a post before you incorrectly criticise 😂
I'm criticising the Sussexes and their self publicity - not online harm.
