Had anyone tried appetite suppressants?

Has anyone tried these? I see boots have them on sale. Do they work? I literally can't control my appetite and am 12.5 stone at 5,6. I can't lose weight. I have no willpower when it comes to hunger and food. I try to exercise but it's futile when I just eat so much.

You need wegovy.

Go and look at the threads on it. It's a very effective appetite suppressant with proven weight loss. Turns the food noise off.

iheartrocknroll · 22/08/2024 22:26

That's what I need but is it safe?

Have you tried cutting out all sugar, inc fruit, and really minimising carbs? Generally the more refined carbs you eat, the more you crave.

iheartrocknroll · 22/08/2024 22:33

I can't seem to stick to any diet or calorie counting. I've tried. I just have no willpower. Never before have I considered medication but I'm so fed up with myself and my total lack of determination. I just feel I need something to curb my appetite and food cravings. I drink too much alcohol too which doesn't help.

There is a whole section on here. Look under weight loss injectables (I think)

Every time you want a snack have a large glass of water instead. Our bodies confuse dehydration with hunger. If you still want a snack after 30 minutes try to go for a healthier option. But water first!

Manyshelves · 22/08/2024 22:36

Almost everyone on MN it appears

You need to work on your mindset. Not use a temporary fix. Maybe get therapy instead of drugs?

Giving up alcohol is effortless weight loss, and you will eat less and better without hangovers.

Try Mounjaro. Expensive, but it works. Forty years of food noise has just....gone. I have no excessive appetite, I have an off switch. It's basically voodoo, but my god, it works.

Agree. It’s astonishing. It’s not like you inject it and can live on cake - it just gives you the space to make better choices.

I’ve followed the strict diet that I always try except I haven’t crumbled after 3 weeks this time.

I would literally have to wear a giant nappy

She’s nowhere near big enough to be accepted for a gastric sleeve, as you probably know & she has literally said she doesn’t have willpower and has tried repeatedly. It’s really bloody hard and doctors have proved that!

iheartrocknroll · 22/08/2024 23:05

I honestly hate myself at the moment. Life is really hard. Sleep deprived, no down time, kids, work, house reno. I get comfort from food and booze but when I look back I've always had issues with greed when it comes to eating, I probably do need therapy if I'm honest.

Mounjaro works. I had no luck on ozempic

iheartrocknroll · 22/08/2024 23:19

I was thinking more about tablets before injections. Boots have some for £17.50 but would they be effective?

Weight loss isn't easy but it's helpful to work out what is hunger, dehydration or emotional/stress needs. Start with the easier solution which is water.

longdistanceclaraclara · 23/08/2024 00:07

Tablets from boots wont do anything.

Ladymuck2022 · 23/08/2024 00:26

Spent a month on formoline, felt a bargain at £22 safe for a diabetic
was meant to be good for cholesterol…
When they arrived it turned out you needed to eat 2 high fat meals a day 🙈

Pills were harmless in terms of side effects but unsure they did anything except put weight on. Yes was active everyday on them.

Theunamedcat · 23/08/2024 00:41

Pills are unlikely to really work unless your driven by hunger they are full of fibre which make you feel full personally when I'm tired and stressed I eat regardless so feeling full isn't helpful

PonyPatter44 · 23/08/2024 07:02

Therapy might well help, have you looked into that at all?

I know I sound a bit like a Mounjaro shill, but it's given me willpower.

piefacedClique · 23/08/2024 12:46

Second week of Mounjaro here. Took my second injection yesterday and it is like a switch. I’ve spent the last 40 years self loathing and beating myself up about food but I now just don’t want to eat bad food. I had a dark choc digestive last night and one was enough rather than the 5 I would have had previously. It’s amazing. 8lb down after a week and I’ve not had any side effects so far.
