Had anyone tried appetite suppressants?

Has anyone tried these? I see boots have them on sale. Do they work? I literally can't control my appetite and am 12.5 stone at 5,6. I can't lose weight. I have no willpower when it comes to hunger and food. I try to exercise but it's futile when I just eat so much.

What happens when you come off weight loss injections having lost the desired amount of weight? Has your body somehow 'retrained' itself not to crave excess food? Surely you don't stay on them long term (you would really have money to burn if you could). What are the prospects of keeping the weight off? I am not knocking anyone who uses it, but does it sustain weight loss long term?

Megifer · 23/08/2024 13:02

Same op. I'm nearly 12 stone and about 5ft 5. Wouldn't say hugely overweight but I do look like an egg on legs. Not exactly a slob but I don't go to the gym, don't have time, I'm perimenopausal too so knackered a lot....

My downfall is just eating waaaaaay too much. I love food. I know my personality is the sort where if I could get back to a body shape I'm happy with that would be my motivation to keep it that way. I'd love to get back to 10 stone.

I'm tempted to try mounjaro, found a chemist online in the uk that seems to just ask for weight and height which seems too easy? When I put mine in it said I wouldn't qualify but when I tweaked it it let do the questionnaire and get to the payment part but I chickened out 😔

Hey right of sugar and bad carbs they just make you want to eat more look into the glucose goddess Instagram and book . Drink more water and personally if I don't buy it I can't eat it . Look into berberine as well I have a friend that has lost huge amount of weight taking it

Mcullumswoman · 23/08/2024 13:19

I have to agree with previous posters about Mounjaro I decided to try it based on a weight and had read about the possible health benefits too, the insulin balance has eliminated my hot flushes.
Yes it's expensive but for me the benefits are worth it, I find it's working a little too well and I'm having to force myself to eat before the snack drawer was visited all too often.
Do lots of readearch there's loads of medical and anecdotal evidence out there particularly on this forum.
Agree with PP tis voodoo

Mcullumswoman · 23/08/2024 13:25

Sorry - forgot to add I can't drink as much either before a bottle of wine and 2-3 double G&T's most nights, now max 3 singles in huge glasses of low cal tonic is as much as I can tolerate- my liver thanks it

For years I’ve tried every diet. I’m vegetarian, and prep 90% of what we eat as a family. No processed food, lots of protein and vegetables, but I simply eat too much quantity wise. Far too many carbs!
My partner tried Mounjaro, had amazing results and I decided to give it a go too. 6 weeks in, I’m a stone down despite staying on the lowest dose. The food noise has gone! I’m not mentally preparing the next meal. I’m eating far less volume wise and I’m currently on holiday, by the pool, not hiding my stomach under a beach towel. I feel better than I have in years.
Sometimes I delay the next jab a few days and despite the appetite suppressant reducing, I make better food choices, and this was what I wanted to train myself to do.

I was thinking more about tablets before injections. Boots have some for £17.50 but would they be effective?

No they don't. You need to give up drinking and cut down on sugar. Then realise that being hungry isn't going to kill you.
Injectibles won't work because you are in the category of just putting it back on when you stop them. Your appetite goes into overdrive when you stop them. Slimming clinics will offer you Phentermine and they are a really good appetite suppressant, but they only work for about six- eight weeks. Try them before injectibles, you are only overweight and they'll put you into the healthy category.

Ponoka7 · 23/08/2024 14:11

@Ameloah were you just overweight or obese?

DonnaBanana · 23/08/2024 14:12

Merryoldgoat · 22/08/2024 22:56

Agree. It’s astonishing. It’s not like you inject it and can live on cake - it just gives you the space to make better choices.

I’ve followed the strict diet that I always try except I haven’t crumbled after 3 weeks this time.

No it’s more like you inject it and the idea of eating cake feels vile. You feel like you ate a big Chinese takeaway twenty minutes earlier but like nearly all the time.

I thought that phentermine was banned because of its adverse effect on the heart.
I know that increased palpitations was one of the major side effects.
If I remember clearly, one of the ladies in a pop group nearly had a heart attack because of phentermine usage

They aren't t meant for people like the OP. Some people have to stay on them long term or they are constantly ravenous and if they haven't addressed their issues, the weight comes back on fast. I did my research, talked it over with my GP and consultant and we collectively decided they wasn't for me. My DD is using them. She's happy to hit the gym when she's dropped the excess and doesn't drink etc.

Check out the mounjaro threads

Deb13b · 23/08/2024 14:30

I would love to try the mounjaro but I can't afford it. Heard so many positive reviews. I've yet to find an appetite suppressant that works.

No it’s not - I’ve been on it for 3 months and I don’t feel like that. I enjoy all of my food, still have an appetite it’s just much smaller.

I don’t feel at all like you write. I’ve lost over 2 stone.

HaveToStopTheWorld · 23/08/2024 14:32

It's really frightening how many people are recommending Mounjaro to a poster whose BMI is 28. That's not who the drug is for.

user1471554720 · 23/08/2024 14:36

Chromium from the health shop is good for sweet cravings.

If ypu eat less it takes a week for you to feel less hungry. Try reducing portion sizes ever so slightly.

Less refined carbs more protein, try cut back on crackers white bread, pasta, biscuits, preferably have very little. White bread and crackers give me an awful hunger. Less alcohol too.

Try this before injectibles.

openforall · 23/08/2024 14:44

Lemme know what you find

I feel exactly the same

Lols to having a glass of water instead of a snack 🤣

There's a wide range of experiences. Go on a Mounjaro forum and you'll see. Some people don't react to it well, some people do. It's common for it to be heavily appetite suppressing and nauseating for the first several doses though not usually in the long term.

Well obviously but you posted you opinion and I posted mine. You posted like being repulsed by cake is a fact and it’s not.

Second week of Mounjaro here. Took my second injection yesterday and it is like a switch. I’ve spent the last 40 years self loathing and beating myself up about food but I now just don’t want to eat bad food. I had a dark choc digestive last night and one was enough rather than the 5 I would have had previously. It’s amazing. 8lb down after a week and I’ve not had any side effects so far.

We started on the same day! 6lbs down in the first week. So easy, not interested in food at all, but feel “satisfied” all the time. Looking forward to what things are like in a month!

PragmaticWench · 23/08/2024 15:55

You could look into hypnotherapy? There are fairly easy and inexpensive versions like Paul McKenna's app, or you could see a hypnotherapist in person. Seems a better first step to me than medication.

AInightingale · 23/08/2024 15:58

I wish someone could hypnotise me into not eating late in the evenings. 😁Downfall, every bloody time.

Wildywondrous · 23/08/2024 16:00

I used Wegovy from November until April and lost 50lbs easily, it's liquid willpower.
It took a bit of getting used to, I found it very odd to not be constantly thinking of food or overeating.
This summer has been fantastic, finally wearing clothes I feel comfortable in and not trying to hide my body, I'm also no longer in pain with my joints.

Hyperion100 · 23/08/2024 16:01

MDMA back in the day but not for 20 years.
