New neighbours

We have new neighbours, moved in two weeks ago. I put a card through the door to welcome them and put my number in it to introduce ourselves. The woman texted to say thank you for the card which was lovely. We never heard our old neighbours (we're semi detached with the halls and stairs adjoining) however we now hear the new neighbours going up and down the stairs very loudly, they must be pretty heavy footed. They also have two young children who I think run up and down them fairly often. They seem a lovely family :) just wondering would you mention it or just leave it and put up with it? It really is loud and can be heard over us having the TV on in the evening. Just so odd to me we never heard our old neighbours at all through the wall and they were a young family too...

Sound needs somewhere to go. In empty spaces with little soft furnishings it will reverberate.
Tiles, leather sofas, wooden floors, hard surfaces in a kitchen will all contribute to sound not being absorbed.

It's really not that hard to understand.

If the OP tries to increase her soft furnishings it may help.

Have you any helpful suggestions yourself?

Yeah but seriously, sleeping bags on walls? No I have no suggestions which is why I didn’t pluck a random one out of thin air and try to pass it through as a normal thing to do…

I would gladly take hearing my neighbours going up and down stairs during the day over hearing their loud voices through the night when having visitors....
