I've started getting into reading again and now looking for book recommendations. I don't know if it's just me not enjoying reading as much as I used to, but some of the titles I've read/attempted to recently just don't seem to grab my attention and I struggle to get through them.

I'm currently reading People Like Her by Ellery Lloyd. It's ok, but a bit slow.

I prefer mysteries and thrillers.

Please give me some ideas!

Have you tried the Thursday Murder Club series by Richard Osman? They are a great read if you want a page turner that isn't too taxing.

I like Danuta Kot's series set around Bridlington, Life Ruins and Someone Who Isn't me. I like Jane Casey's Maeve Kerrigan series, though I was very frustrated by the most recent one. Louise Pennny is usually very readable.

I've read the Couple Next Door but it was a while ago actually! I think I read that pretty quickly

A Dark Adapted Eye, Barbara Vine.

GingerLiberalFeminist · 21/08/2024 16:34

Shogun by James Cavell, inspired by watching the series but the book is phenomenal. Took me two weeks though!

I always recommend American Gods by Neil Gaiman as it's fabulous

Anything by Stephen King, Fairy Tale isn't scary if you don't want horror.

I read the Peter James and Chris Carter Series as good pulp fiction. Nary a romance shall cross my bookshelf though!

Luluissleeping · 21/08/2024 16:34

Outlander by Diana Gabaldon

Don't try these they're really badly written. Neil Gaiman is always an easy and entertaining read.

Girl with the dragon tattoo trilogy by Steig Larrsen and I am Pilgrim by Terry Hayes. I had many, many late nights with both of them because I simply could not stop reading!

Frosty1000 · 21/08/2024 16:37

The job ( this is a thriller) or the persuit of happiness ( not a thriller but really good spanning the war and present day)by Douglas Kennedy

The best of times or sheer abandon by penny vincenzi - both massive books but excellent

Anything by Martina Cole or Linwood Barclay would fit the thriller category

xxSideshowAuntSallyxx · 21/08/2024 16:38

Last Bus to Woodstock by Colin Dexter. It's the first Inspector Morse book, I've not been able to put it down unlike some of the books I've read.

Also sometthing different but Neverwhere by Neil Gaimen, so much fun to read and imagine what the London in the book is like.

QuestionableMouse · 21/08/2024 16:38

The Likeness by Tana French!

WickedSerious · 21/08/2024 16:39

Mr Candid by Jules Hardy.

pikkumyy77 · 21/08/2024 16:40

Colleen Mcollough’s book in Caesar, which led me to her entire mammoth series Masters of Rome. If you like history they are incredible.

bringonyourwreckingball · 21/08/2024 16:41

I recently enjoyed The Scarlet Papers

the Tim Weaver David Raker series is good

ClementineChurchill · 21/08/2024 16:41

Hunted by Abir Mukherjee

Agree with Shari Lapena. Good easy reads in one sitting.
Robert Goddard thriller/mysteries from 20 years ago but not his recent stuff.
My favourite author Jane Harper has written a few thriller type books set in Australia. I can't put these down! Just keep re-reading them.
