To return makeup to buy again with a voucher to get money off

Bought a mascara and foundation in Boots earlier, they were doing a promo if you buy two items you get a palette with it, lovely. Only when I got to the car did I remember I had one of those No.7 spend £20 get £10 off vouchers It was too late to go back but im wondering if I called in tomorrow and explained would they refund me and then let me buy them back again using the voucher? The items haven't been used but there seems to be no sealing stickers on anything on them to show I haven't used them! I worked in retail for years and would have happily done this for a customer but understand some people maybe would refuse? What do you think?

Superdrug didn't let me return makeup even after 5 mins of coming back. Check their makeup policy.

Could you something else to try on that offer or even have a backup? Just in case they don't let you

Mercury2702 · 20/08/2024 23:20

I’m not sure you’d be able to in all honesty, I’m sure a lot of places say that make up is non returnable

IDontLoveTheWayYouLie · 20/08/2024 23:20

I don't think many places would let you but you could try. The worst they'll say is no.

Turophilic · 20/08/2024 23:23

I don’t think anyone lets you return makeup, even unopened.

But you could have a punt if it’s really worth a tenner in driving back, paying for parking and attempting the argument.

Anotherparkingthread · 20/08/2024 23:26

The offers aren't cross compatible so the free pallette means you can't use the voucher. I tried this exact thing without the return process last week!

Sallyanne92 · 20/08/2024 23:27

So I have to go back to the shopping centre anyway, don't think I would go just for the exchange. I looked on Boots website and it says if the makeup is unopened it's returnable. Since im buying the same makeup again im hoping they wont be too fussy on the lack of stickers! The two items came to nearly £30 so would like to chance it, just a bit embarrassed

Interestingly the girl didn't scan the palette or anything just put it straight in the bag so no record I actually got the palette, hadn't even thought about that. Tbh id rather the £10 than the palette

Whatever you do let us know if it works

PoopedAndScooped · 20/08/2024 23:36

Normally you have to use only one deal.
So either the free palette OR the £10 off

Time40 · 20/08/2024 23:44

Was it the free palette, rose something or other, that they were giving away last year? Beiges and pinks, and a bit sparkly? Bloody awful, useless thing! (I was excited when I got it, too ... )

Hatehayfever · 21/08/2024 00:10

I have exchanged foundation in Boots (a gift- wrong shade). I didn't have a receipt but it was sealed.

I used my voucher and got the free palette, so not sure why you couldn’t.

3rdtimeinflorida · 21/08/2024 00:18

Maybe it varies in branches and who serves you but I was able to use my voucher and get the palette. To get the palette the spend has to be over £25 (after voucher deducted).

Sallyanne92 · 21/08/2024 06:40

In ny boots it was you had to buy two items to get the palette, the amount spent didn't seem to matter, if I have time to call in this morning I'll just ask and see what they say

Im hoping mine are the same, since they didn't scan the palette or anything maybe just depends who you get serving you

YABU.

If you didn't have the means to afford it, you shouldn't have bought it. You can't take the makeup back and it doesn't matter whether you'd rather have the £10 or the palette. You can't have cared that much as you forgot the voucher in the first place

Wow
OP simply forgot she had the voucher or she'd have used that, she clearly states this.
Maybe go back to bed and get out the other side

NeedSomeAnswersPlease · 21/08/2024 07:08

@HotChocWine then it's a mistake and she has to cope. The fact she's wanting to go back, return the makeup and get the £10 off shows she couldn't really afford it.

JennyfromtheBlok · 21/08/2024 07:11

If you really like what you bought and use it all the time, I would just re-buy using the voucher and put in a drawer until the others run out.

STARCATCHER22 · 21/08/2024 07:21

I would be concerned if they allow you to return a mascara that doesn’t have the tamper seal still on. 🤢

I also wouldn’t have bought a mascara with out the seal on to show that it hadn’t been opened.

Not the main point of the post I know but still concerning!

TheOccupier · 21/08/2024 08:08

I would do this (asking very nicely), but I'm shameless when it comes to saving money. If you don't ask, you don't get!

You’re probably right and I’ve remembered the offer wrong!
They were also doing 3 for 2 but you can’t have this offer with the £10 voucher it’s either or.

I used the voucher and got the palette. The Sales Assistant even gave me the voucher at the till to use against the transaction.

I definitely can afford to buy make-up but its the principal of having the voucher off! This seems like a pretty mean comment for no reason?

To update everyone just been in the girl was lovely and said it was no bother at all. She noticed the palette didnt scan and asked if I wanted one alongside the £10 off as she said you can have both and it doesn't affect the voucher. I was obviously honest and said I had the palette already. Its not the money but who wouldn't at least ask for £10 off if possible in this day and age.

Thanks for all the kind responses

Glad you got it, like you say who wouldn’t try and get £10 off if you can!
