I find it really strange that the codefendant of the tech billionaire that is missing from the yacht in Sicily was killed in a road accident on the same day in a different country. Two totally different accidents. Both were aquiited of fraud and involved in the same case. Totally bizarre.

On a more personsl note a met someone from my year at school at a remote waterfall in Nepal about 20 years ago.

wow, here's another coincidence for the coincidence thread. I knew your DP, we dated about 20 years ago.

I'm very sorry for your loss.

Gosh.

Would you mind messaging me?

Used to help moderate a forum and added several of the team as Facebook friends. That was 2012

Fast forward to 2016. I'd emailed an organisation because I was looking for an assistant as I'm disabled. They put me in touch with a lady and we added each other as Facebook friends. She says that her cousin (one of the people mentioned above) is a mutual friend of ours

Coincidence that it happened in Sicily (home of the Mafia)? Maybe, maybe not...

I have so many 😂
The most recent - I organised a sound bath for some friends who were visiting from Spain & had never tried one. I live in Ireland & they have a holiday home near to me. I also invited another friend who couldn’t make it. The friends absolutely loved the sound bath & said they were going to try and find one when they got back to Spain. A few days later I went away on a minibreak on the opposite side of the country with Dsis & DDs. I went into the sauna and got chatting to a lady who had been into a beach sauna where I live … this is owned by the friend who couldn’t make it to the sound bath. We left, I went for a swim and went back into the sauna. A man was sitting there who was a bizarre dead ringer for someone I knew many years ago. If it wasn’t for tattoos I would 💯 have thought it was him. We began to chat. He asked me where I was from. I told him. He said he had two friends who had a house there. It was my two friends. He was their personal trainer. In Spain 😂

I met a guy at uni and we got talking
Turns out we were born in the same hospital and the same age (uni in Lancashire, hospital in Devon so not even close)
I jokingly said hope we don't share a birthday

We did. Born within an hour of each other on the same day

is your name Deborah? 🤣

Moved unexpectedly for work to a different continent. I rehomed our out door cat with a colleague as I was going to be living in a 10th floor apartment. 10 years later I had moved to a house in another part of that country and the couple who adopted our cat moved in across the road from us. Cat didn't show any recognition whatsoever but I enthusiastically looked after her when they went on hols.

I went to the wedding of a european friend of mine, but the wedding was in the east of England. She was marrying someone from her own country, but they lived here.

The celebrant began to speak and I whispered to my dh, I bet you, that fella is from my parents' home town (150 miles away.) I didn't know him at all but recognised the accent. (You really can pinpoint a valleys accent to the very town. Outing - whoops.)

Turns out he had the same very rare surname as me, though not a direct relation, and was in my dad's class at school,

Serp12 · 22/08/2024 19:18

I have an older brother and my mum loves to tell this story. 😂 it’s not the most amazing coincidence but is a coincidence none the less.

Her due date for my brother was 22nd June.

my brother was born on the 25th June.

3 years later, her due date for me was 25th June.

i was born on the 22nd June.

My brother 3 days early, and me 3 days later on each others due dates.

BatFaceGrrrll · 22/08/2024 19:45

I've told this one a few times but it's quite good

Nearly 40 years ago now, when I was 12 or 13, I had a book called 'Come Back Lucy' which I loved. Anyway, over time and growing up and multiple moves etc etc, it got lost and I never gave it another thought

A few years ago in a fit of nostalgia, I had a look on Amazon to see if it was still in print or available. Found someone on marketplace selling a copy - they were based in Scotland, I live in the south east of England

Buy book, it arrived a few days later. I open it up to have a flick through to see my (maiden) name and childhood address written on the inside leaf in my 13 year old teenage handwriting

Yep, decades later, id somehow bought my own book back

Bare with, I'll try and keep this short.

My Dsis met my BIL at 11 in high school. They're now 32.

BILs grandma recently passed and we all attended the funeral as our families are close. During the eulogy, they spoke about how lucky their grandma was and recalled some tales of her remarkable luck.

One was of a holiday abroad when the grandchildren were young, when she fell over in the sea and resurfaced, holding a gold ring.

I saw my parents immediately look at each other.

In the early 90s both families had visited the same obscure location, a few years apart. They had previously discussed it and remarked that it was a coincidence as it was quite obscure for that time.

Whilst there, dad was snorkelling and lost his very distinctive wedding ring. It was heavily engraved and had his initials inside. Mum had saved every penny to replace and it took years as they had very little spare money.

At the wake, Dad asked BILs parents, if the story about the ring in the sea was in X location and it turns out it was and grandma had actually kept it somewhere and they'd try dig it out when they sort her things.

2 weeks later. BILs parents called into my parents with the ring. It was dad's wedding ring, same engraving and his initials inside.

Sis and BIL would have been 7 (when lost) and 9 (when found) when this happened.
They didn't meet until 11 and the ring was handed back 25 years later.

Dad wears it on his necklace and tells everyone he meets about it 🤣

This is incredible!!

A few years ago, I was listing to “Nancy Mulligan” by Ed Sheeran while I was out for a walk. (It’s the only Ed Sheeran song I like, but I love it.) At the line “Nancy was my yellow rose,” I realized I was walking past a van with a yellow rose painted on it.

I have the best one.

When i was about 7 my dad bought a second hand piano for me from a piano dealer.

About four years later we moved house and took the piano too. We put it in the front room.

In the move the piano had got all knocked about so my dad called a tuner who came to over. We had never used this piano tuner before.

The man tuned the piano then finishing up he asked my dad what had happened to the old lady? My dad said “what old lady?”. The man said “the old lady who lives here? Ive been here before to tune this piano”.

He reached deep into the piano and eventually pulled out an old business card of his which was deep in the bowels of the instrument ,

Turns out that when my dad had bought the piano four years earlier it had been sold when an old lady had downsized her house. Four years later we then bought HER OLD HOUSE and moved the piano, placing it in the exact same spot it had been in before.

Not a coincidence but I was on the DLR once and next to me was a torn out piece of a newspaper with my horoscope on it (just mine not a whole page). I read it then turned the paper over and it was a job advert which sounded really good (PA job) so I put it in my bag and applied for it later that day.

Got the job then after 8 months there I got together with my now husband and we have now been together for 20 years and have two kids. So not really a coincidence but because I love the idea I like to think it was meant to be that day!

My son and my grandfather were born exactly 100 years apart on the same day, (1905 and 2005). My mum thinks they have similar mannerisms and looks!

One of my grandchildren was born in the same hospital where his great grandpa was dying. The time of birth on his birth certificate is the same as the time of death on his great grandpas death certificate. It was a very difficult day.

Hatethosedates · 22/08/2024 20:28

I have name changed for this, as lots of people know this.
I am a fan of musicals and was lucky enough to watch Hamilton twice during it's first West end run. The first time was 29th March 2018, then 23rd August 2018. Sadly my DM passed away on 28th March 2019, didn’t think too much of it, then my DF died on 23rd August 2021. I have had the opportunity to watch the musical again, but don't wish to tempt fate.

Happyinheels · 22/08/2024 20:31

My xh (h at the time) - had worked with this guy for a few years. One day his work colleagues car wouldn't start so the colleague asked xh to give him a lift home after work, but asked him if on the way home he could pick up his dp and their baby as was supposed to be picking them up on his way home from work. As we had our babies car seat in the car it wasn't a problem.
Xh and colleague picks up the guys dp and baby and xh makes small talk with the dp as you do (his first time meeting her.) He commented on the unusual name of the baby, a double barrelled first name. He asked the significance of the second part of the babies name, Happyinheels, the dp replied that it was her own family surname and so they named the baby double barrelled to include it in her name. My xh replied how funny as that name was my (me) maiden name and they both laughed and said imagine if the dp and I were related. Xh went on to tell her well actually I didn't know my birth father as I grew up in care but did know he was called Mr XY Z Happyinheels. The dp was like no way, I have an uncle called Mr XYZ Happyinheels, my dad's brother. We thought it was coincidental until the next day the colleague came into work and confirmed that Mr XYZ Happyinheels and his dp's uncle were one and the same person! My birth father! Making the work colleagues dp in the car my cousin!

Went to forces primary schools (9!) and had an old ‘boy’ friend (not literally) when I was literally 6 ish fast forward to age 18 ish and a friend was visiting his auntie in local town and messaged to ask to meet.. said he was coming with ‘a friend’. Arrived at the train station and it was my ‘bf’ from childhood- not from this area and didn’t know who he was meeting. So weird!

Back in the 90's, pre mobile phones, I was walking past a big bank of public telephones, when one started ringing. I hardly ever picked the receiver up when this happened, but I did on this occasion.

It was a friend, trying to get hold of me urgently. They'd either misdialled or misremembered my number (I can't remember) but somehow, incredibly, managed to reach me in the middle of town, as I randomly walked past the very telephone they'd managed to accidentally call.

Wow

I have a few!
Met the Mum of a child in my son's class in primary school 40 years ago, in Scotland, when I was sat on a rock posing for my picture at the Grand Canyon!

On holiday in Ibiza a few years ago got talking to a nice couple in the hotel. Asked where she was from - she had lived near where I'd lived in England. A bit more probing found out that her best friend in secondary school had been my best friend in primary school! Then asked her husband where he was from - turns out he'd been brought up in the caretaker's house of the Scottish primary school that my kids went to! So we even knew his surname before he told us.

Last one is my daughter in law's coincidence. She was outside with her dogs that were barking at a squirrel. She spotted a man with a dog looking into the garden and asked if she could help him. He explained that he'd been working nearby and was walking his dog before going home. He'd heard the barking and because it sounded so familiar he had to check if the dogs were Labradoodles like his. Turns out they were not only all Labradoodles but two were litter mates and one was a half sister! Even more amazing when you hear he lived 55 miles away and the kennels is a different 40 miles away!

mamaandbabas · 22/08/2024 21:22

My DH has started reading a true crime book and the crime was carried out in a house 3 streets away from his family home. He knew nothing about the plot of the book or had heard anything about the crime beforehand.

pinkstripeycat · 22/08/2024 21:31

My DH was a soldier fighting in Iraq.
I met some wives online supporting eachother while our husbands were at war.
Two of the ladies (Cheryl & Alison) and I met up in Alison’s hometown for a night out.
A few years later DH and I were in a small town in North Queensland, Australia with the army.
We got chatting to a soldier (in a nightclub) who turned out to be Alison’s husband! Neither of us knew him or met him before.

I thought those deaths were strange too. The road accident could have been fixed but not the boat one so it must just have been a weird coincidence

mamaandbabas · 22/08/2024 21:33

I phoned a tiler for a quote, he said he would come to my house straight away which I thought was odd. When he arrived, he said he lived in my house as a small boy 40 years previously, he couldn't wait to tell his DM

MistressoftheDarkSide · 22/08/2024 21:41

Loving these stories, the way people's lives cross over in weird and unpredictable ways. Even if it is just some law of statistics, I find it strangely comforting as if we're all the ingredients of some bizarre cosmic soup.

I have another - several years ago DP and I went to London for a friend's birthday party. We were in "fancy dress" and it was fancy - the crowd we were with were all performance artists of various stripes and we all had costumes coming out of our ears - we were sort of SteamGoth pirates lol.

I think there were about a dozen of us and we started the night in a pub in the backstreets of Hackney. Also in the pub were a group of older people, who it transpired were on a trip from Lancashire.

Being gregarious, my DP had got chatting to them at the bar, they were quite intrigued by us all and asked if they could take photos. DP had been born in Lancashire but moved South as a child, and I lived North of Manchester in the Rossendale Valley for a couple of years when I was married to my ExH, so we had a sort of affinity.

Further chatting revealed that the group were from Rawtenstall, which used to host a town wide bike rally every year. I knew this well - ExDH and I were bikers at the time (well, I was more pillion than rider) and we had been on the committee of this bike show for two years. The Head of the committee was a local hairdresser and it transpired that the lady we were chatting to was one of his clients..... we had a brilliant natter and I often wonder about them showing off their holiday photos to said hairdresser and him being very surprised as to how my life had changed in the 7 years since I'd moved back down South and ended up running away and "joining the circus" 😅
