I find it really strange that the codefendant of the tech billionaire that is missing from the yacht in Sicily was killed in a road accident on the same day in a different country. Two totally different accidents. Both were aquiited of fraud and involved in the same case. Totally bizarre.

On a more personsl note a met someone from my year at school at a remote waterfall in Nepal about 20 years ago.

Please share your stories.

Bare with, I'll try and keep this short.

My Dsis met my BIL at 11 in high school. They're now 32.

BILs grandma recently passed and we all attended the funeral as our families are close. During the eulogy, they spoke about how lucky their grandma was and recalled some tales of her remarkable luck.

One was of a holiday abroad when the grandchildren were young, when she fell over in the sea and resurfaced, holding a gold ring.

I saw my parents immediately look at each other.

In the early 90s both families had visited the same obscure location, a few years apart. They had previously discussed it and remarked that it was a coincidence as it was quite obscure for that time.

Whilst there, dad was snorkelling and lost his very distinctive wedding ring. It was heavily engraved and had his initials inside. Mum had saved every penny to replace and it took years as they had very little spare money.

At the wake, Dad asked BILs parents, if the story about the ring in the sea was in X location and it turns out it was and grandma had actually kept it somewhere and they'd try dig it out when they sort her things.

2 weeks later. BILs parents called into my parents with the ring. It was dad's wedding ring, same engraving and his initials inside.

Sis and BIL would have been 7 (when lost) and 9 (when found) when this happened.
They didn't meet until 11 and the ring was handed back 25 years later.

Dad wears it on his necklace and tells everyone he meets about it 🤣

That is phenomenal!!! 😮

I met an American guy in London and we became good friends. He lived a few doors down from me in London. A couple of years prior, I had been in the US and moved into a house for the summer. It turns out he had been living a few doors down from the summer house, but had moved out on the same day I moved in so we never crossed paths. I do think there are some people you’re just meant to meet!

My partner has the same birthday as my late father, which I like to think of as a lucky sign.

I came out of the cinema many years ago and my arm was like a water diviner pointing to a car. I said to exdh what am I doing? I couldn't believe it my arm took on a life of its own. I was pointing at a car. Exdh then saw the car I pointed at was his old car parked in the car park. A car we'd had together. No rhyme or reason for this. Very weird. But what is weirder is not long after were parked up in a street and i had a strong need to turn around to look at the car behind. There in the street was another old car of his. Absolutely no reason for this. I have a lot of involvement in the spiritualist church and psychic ability. Just these 2 happenings don't have any point? Or maybe they do? It's baffling.

If that doesn't win the thread...

I think 'coincidences' are everywhere if you tune in and look for them. I pay attention to even the smallest coinidence.

I started my periods on my grandma’s birthday. So did my sister two years later. So did her daughter, my niece, 26 years later.

I think that your female family members have standardised their cycles to the matriarch’s biological clock.

In secondary school I sat near a girl who was just behind me in register order. We were friendly but never in the same friendship group. Years later on social media I learned that her only DS was born the day before my only DS. All of the times we could have had our children and it happened one day apart.

Perhaps our own cycles synchronised too whilst we sat together in science.

Newbie8918 · 21/08/2024 01:09

@SelMarin weirdly, upon reflection, I get how both families ended up in the same obscure location.

It was the days of the package holiday and no internet. The holiday was meant to be Ibiza but ended up being a little fishing village 40 mins away from Ibiza town. It was a tiny bay, with one hotel, one bar and a handful of restaurants. Beautiful but not 'Ibiza', Ibiza.

My guess is that they were sold the holiday by the same travel agent. They lived locally to each other and the high street.

They'd previously discussed it in the context of being duped.

Can't explain grandma falling over and finding the ring 2 years later however 🤣🤣🤣

MaMisled · 21/08/2024 01:11

My very close friends shared their wedding anniversary with my parents and DH and I shared ours with their parents!

Pastlast · 21/08/2024 01:14

My uncle sold a yacht to my husband’s uncle before we met. Very surprised to visit him and find myself on the yacht I’d watched my uncle spend years building in his back garden.

LifeZ · 21/08/2024 01:20

1.Married a man and moved in to his house... turned out it was a house my had had built years before ( we have an age gap) I use d to pay there whilst it was being built😬
2.Used to go on summer Sundays to the gardens of a local ish manor house, as little girls My sisters and I always admired the pretty weddings.it had become clear the chances are that one of those was my now husbands marriage to his first wife is extremely high.
3.Every day I got off the bus or side my husbands office. I worked immediately beside his house. We started and finished work at the same time every day. We walked passed each other at the same time every day. He vaguely remembered seeing me because of the distinctive uniform I wore. We met years later.

Wonder if someone was trying to tell me something all along🤔

MaMisled · 21/08/2024 01:21

After reading some of these, my second mind blowing coincidence doesn't sound as unbelievable as I was afraid it might! My dear friend passed away on Aug 12th 2010. Her son had a son on Aug 12th 2018, then a daughter on Aug 12th 2022!

Thecarroway · 21/08/2024 01:24

Not mine but my cousin’s from the 90s.

My cousin left her favourite stuffed toy (a beanie baby) at Disney World Florida. She was distraught. Her parents rang the park and were willing to go back the next day but it was nowhere to be found. I can’t recall what but the beanie baby had an identifier my aunt had sewn - initials on the stuffed toy’s scarf or similar.

Fast forward 6 months, my aunt is at a random car boot sale in the neighbouring town and she used to rummage around to try and find the particular beanie baby version that was lost. It was not common apparently. And what does she come across? The EXACT beanie baby my cousin lost - initials and everything. Turns out the seller’s daughter picked it up on their last day of holiday in Florida. She was selling her toys to buy a game boy or something.

Aunt had to pay (the cheek!) for it to be returned to its rightful owner.

TiggeryBear · 21/08/2024 01:39

My Dad shares the same Birthday as my Mum's Gran (my Great Gran)
I share my Birthday with DP's Nan

My children's birth dates are doubles (think 04/02 & 08/04)
My sisters children's birth dates are halves (think 06/06 & 03/03) (not their real birth dates but you get the idea)

Tarkan · 21/08/2024 01:42

My maiden surname is rather unusual, to the point I'm pretty sure I was the only person with the same first name and surname together in the world as I was growing up and there's a high chance that anyone with the same surname (even with a slightly different spelling) is somehow related to me. (The rarity of the name and the fact it was hard for people to spell and pronounce are actually why I took DH's very common surname when we married, I'm a lot harder to Google nowadays).

I grew up in a city, where there was a woman with the exact same name as my mum in our street but I don't think we were actually related to her.

When I was a child we moved over 100 miles away from this city and 150 miles from where my family originated from.

Fast forward many years, in the same town we moved to, and our local bingo hall's Facebook page noticed that me and another woman in comments on a post had the same unusual surname with the same spelling and asked if we were related. She said it was her married name so probably not, but we started speaking and found out that her FIL is my dad's first cousin. We then also found out that they lived literally a few doors away from my parents at one point so we'd have likely said hi to them in passing as it's a small friendly cul-de-sac.

My husband’s horoscope is the same as me.

His mum’s is the same as my mum’s.

His dad’s is the same as my dad’s.

Daffyyellow · 21/08/2024 02:04

Names.
My family and my BF’s family.
Our Mum’s have the same name.
My Dad shares a name with her husband.
Her Dad shared a name with my Mum’s brother.
Her older brother is the same as my Stepfather.
Her younger brother has the name I would have been given if I was a boy.
That’s all of her immediate childhood family matching nearly all of mine, I don’t have any siblings. We didn’t meet until we were 11 and the only name that wasn’t known at that point was her husband’s! Also not geographically close.

spikeandbuffy24 · 21/08/2024 02:12

I met a guy at uni and we got talking
Turns out we were born in the same hospital and the same age (uni in Lancashire, hospital in Devon so not even close)
I jokingly said hope we don't share a birthday

We did. Born within an hour of each other on the same day

Frith2013 · 21/08/2024 02:23

One of my childhood friends met another English man, in Canada. They had a chat.

Second man was a friend of mine from university!

They had never met before and lived 300 miles apart (when in the UK). I don't know how the conversation got round to me.

Tarkan · 21/08/2024 02:49

My other one is how often DH and I found we had just missed each other at events etc in our pasts and other things we had that linked us.

His dad had died a few months before we met but it turns out I had actually met my FIL as he was our postie when I was a teenager, so he delivered all my exam results, birthday cards etc to me. This was when you knew you'd have the same postie every day so the Christmas tip my parents would leave for him probably helped FIL have a few drinks after work or put towards Christmas gifts for DH.

DH and I met at a mutual friend's gig but we found out we had been at the same gigs from this friend before, even both speaking to her mum and we still hadn't met each other there.

We'd also been at the same funeral and went to the same local pubs on our own in the months before we met, but our paths had never crossed. We think at best one of us would have been leaving a pub as the other arrived. We also lived just a couple of streets away from each other and I went past his house regularly.

We then worked out that we HAD met each other before as his high school best friend had gone out with my high school best friend back in the late 90s/early 2000s and we had been on the same night out with them.

DH also worked on the railway when we met and he'd gone there after being in the RAF. My granda had done the same two jobs in his life.

thisiswheretheseagullfliesaway · 21/08/2024 02:57

My cousin and his wife were born the same day and same hospital.

I love in a small village in NI we travelled to.Dublin to see a concert in Croke.Park.82,300 capacity stadium and ended.up sitting beside the guy who lived across the road from us. Neither of us knew each other was going.

Mojodojocasahous · 21/08/2024 03:06

Grandma on my dad’s side had a lovely photo taken on the pier in Blackpool of Dad and my Grandma - who did we spot in the background playing - my mum! They met years later in their 20s

Truffeo · 21/08/2024 03:11

Back in the 90's, pre mobile phones, I was walking past a big bank of public telephones, when one started ringing. I hardly ever picked the receiver up when this happened, but I did on this occasion.

It was a friend, trying to get hold of me urgently. They'd either misdialled or misremembered my number (I can't remember) but somehow, incredibly, managed to reach me in the middle of town, as I randomly walked past the very telephone they'd managed to accidentally call.
