I find it really strange that the codefendant of the tech billionaire that is missing from the yacht in Sicily was killed in a road accident on the same day in a different country. Two totally different accidents. Both were aquiited of fraud and involved in the same case. Totally bizarre.

On a more personsl note a met someone from my year at school at a remote waterfall in Nepal about 20 years ago.

Years ago I was a flight attendant living on my own for the first time in London. On a flight to LA a passenger asked where I was from because of my distinctive accent. I told him where, but explained I was living in west London now. The passenger sat next to him piped up she lived in that particular area when she moved to London from LA years ago. Turned out we lived in the EXACT same flat with the EXACT same landlady !!!!!!!

I bumped into my parents' neighbours from when we all lived in Portugal in a random bar in a smallish and not hugely touristy town in Vietnam. It wasn't a big touristy type bar either, it was small and a bit of a dive and the only other people in there were locals. There were loads of other bars on the same street too but for some reason I chose that one!

Andoutcomethewolves · 21/08/2024 17:55

Another one - it came to light that my H's good friend now lives in the same flat that I used to live in in London

MIL died at 59yrs 10mths her DM died at 59yrs 10mths to the day.
DDs birthday is MILs DF death date and MIL said she'd be born that day.
My DB was born same day 70yrs after DGF.
And I opened a school bank account in my first year of seniors with a tall lad, there was only one lad that ran it with a teacher and some other yr 11 girls that year.... my now DH. Didn't meet him again until I was 19.
Got more but these pop out most.

@Fluffyelephant

I’ve experienced similar but going from New Zealand to the UK.

Was waiting in a queue for a tour of Buckingham Palace and felt a tap on my shoulder. Queuing behind me was a colleague from work but from a different department. Didn’t know they were on holiday let alone they were in England.

Same holiday, went to Oxford for a day trip. Caught the train back to London and entered the carriage. The first person I saw was my old boss from a job that I had left 18 months earlier. Ex-boss lived close to me and in those 18months I had never banged into them. To see them on a train nearly 19,000kms from home felt a bit surreal.

Turned the TV on after returning from a weekend away to a place I've never been before. The first shot I saw was a street from the town we'd visited, the second location was the beach we'd played on and the last bit of the film was the famous restaurant where we had dinner the day before.

Never been there in 50 years snd it was on the telly the day after we visited.

I'm excited by the coincidence!

Buggerthislove · 21/08/2024 20:31

I've got a couple more.
My Gran and Grandad were shopping in the local town independently of each other. Grandad got a lift with his mate and Gran got the bus back. One walked in the front door at the same time the other came in the back, both with the same brown leather shopping trolly, we checked the receipts and they were bought within ten mins of the other.
The other was at the wedding of a friend at the local town hall, DH must have dropped his wallet as we left to go to the reception but he thought he may have left it at home, off we went to see if it was there. As we pulled up a Police car pulled up behind him. A random passerby spotted it and flagged down a police car driving past, the Policeman was DH's cousin, he drove straight round to ours and handed it over.

When my kids were at primary school, I had to take my youngest daughter to A&E for a nasty foot injury. While we were waiting to be seen, a girl from her class came in with her dad and sister. She’d hurt her leg badly. A coincidence but not a huge one.

A few years later, I was sent to A&E by 111 and as I needed to get there in a hurry, I took my kids with me. Would you believe it, there was the same dad again with his 2 daughters. He’s a GP, so I imagine he wouldn’t go to A&E lightly. Same for me, a last resort. So the fact our daughters were in the same class and our families had A&E-worthy medical issues on the exact same days and at the same times, a few years apart, was really bizarre.

That’s not all. A few weeks later, I was chatting to the man’s wife at the school gate and told her how my eldest daughter had been diagnosed with a rare auto-immune condition. It’s so unusual that some of the docs at the hospital hadn’t seen a case before and wanted to look at the rash. Would you believe it, one of her daughters had been diagnosed with the exact same condition!

Geminijust · 22/08/2024 07:18

Thought of another one.

Back in the days when people bought their holiday snaps in to work to show their colleagues, we were looking at someone's lads holiday to Tenerife which included some photos of a group of girls they'd met. It was the same girls another colleague had hooked up with on his lads holiday the previous year to Greece!

Zingy123 · 22/08/2024 07:30

We live in the Midlands. We went on holiday to Swanage. I ended up with an abscess in my ear. Managed to get an appointment with a local GP. He used to live in our house when he was younger.

MadisonAvenue · 22/08/2024 09:03

I very luckily managed to get tickets to a last minute pre festival warm up show by a hugely popular band. It was in a small venue in London and people from all over Europe had tried to get tickets when they became available two days before the show.

As I was standing with my son waiting for the gig to start someone tapped me on the shoulder and said “I know you!”
It was our window cleaner 😂

Dorkwillow · 22/08/2024 10:11

I got a letter from my phone insurance in 2013 with the wrong town on it on the address, a place I’d never heard of- still made it to mine because the street and postcode were correct, didn’t think much of it, put it with my documents.. almost 2 years later I was sorting through my paperwork as I was moving out to go and live with my then boyfriend now husband and came across it again- and was completely shocked! The town on the letter was the town he was from in Yorkshire and I lived in Liverpool! Completely different names not even similar and no similar names places nearby.
And even weirder I no longer had that phone because I dropped it on our first date and broke it and had to swap it out on that insurance policy 😂

NoSourDough · 22/08/2024 12:56

I have one that is more woo than coincidence.

I saw a man in the shops I thought was an old school friend I hadn't seen in 15 years. Turns out it wasn’t him. Within about 5 mins of arriving home, I received a phone call from my boyfriend telling me said old school friend had committed suicide that morning. Will never forget the feeling and chill it gave me….

Loobyloo68 · 22/08/2024 17:01

My dad died on the 11th April, his birthday was the 26th April, mum died on the 15th August, her birthday was the 30th August. Both died 15 days before their birthdays

This is a well know urban legend so not sure I believe this one I'm afraid.

@LakelandDreams Wow. I've been on MN for 17 years, and never been accused of lying before.

I have never heard this urban legend. It happened to me. In fact, I'd skewed the details to avoid being spotted by my real-life friends/family who know me and know my experience of this.

The bank of phones were in Tesco. It happened on the way back from work when I was very stressed and depressed, in the throes of an eating disorder and trying to extract myself from an abusive relationship.

It happened. I said it was 'a friend.' It wasn't, it was my abuser. The conversation was horrible and made me spiral.

I didn't want to share all this. I wanted to add an abridged version to the thread, because the circumstances were so weird, but felt compelled to say all this, when I read your post calling me a liar.

So cheers for that. I know I will regret posting all this and I feel like shit now and probably hide the thread. Hope you enjoyed your little snark.

1974devon · 22/08/2024 17:44

We go to the same campsite in france most summers and twice we've gone there and bumped into people from the town we live. One time in the next door caravan
.but then I guess we live in the sw and campsite is only 2 hours from the ferry port so seen as easy to get to.

I'm really sorry that poster upset you. Sometimes people post thoughtlessly. I hope your life is now happier and that those things are behind you Flowers

DH was looking at a property to buy as part of his work. It was really old and dusty and he opened a chest of drawers that had old newspaper inside. The front page on one of them had a story about the grandparents of the person he was with from the 1970s. They had won a holiday or something. So spooky.

TwinklyAmberOrca · 22/08/2024 17:58

I live 200 miles away from my parents. My dad was chatting to one of his colleagues and mentioned the town I lived in. Turns out his colleague's daughter lives in the same town too! And she also happened to be my best friend!! Small world! We had no idea our dad's knew each other as neither are social media users!

Ooh, brilliant thread - I'm a bit on the "woo" side but try to be a sceptic but coincidences / synchronicity fascinate me and I have loads.... as Dirk Gently would say, everything is connected...

My most recent one is quite bizarre to me .- I have recently moved into a flat on the outskirts of the large town I live in. I got chatting to the lady who lives in the flat above me. She was convinced she knew me from somewhere, but couldn't put her finger on it. We thought maybe it was through my now defunct shop, which she did recollect, but we finally nailed it down ..... she mentioned she'd seen someone who looked like me helping an elderly gentleman move into the sheltered accommodation where her grand father lives.. . Turns out yes it was me, helping my Dad move into the flat under her Grandads in the centre if town. So she lives above me, and her Grandad lives above my Dad.....

I'm not very fond of birthdays any more.

2.5 years ago my DP sadly died unexpectedly. He was in hospital for three weeks with brain bleeds (turned out to be undiagnosed virtually symptomless cancer which had metastised). On my birthday I got the news that he'd had a second brain bleed and wasn't going to recover. His birthday - the only day available on the council side to go to the cemetery and pick his burial plot. (We were born almost exactly one month apart and share the same Chinese horiscope). In fact, this may be outing, but it's also common knowledge so sod it - late DP was a body piercer of decades standing, and his birthday was Valentines Day, so i was picking a hole for his final resting place on a day symbolised by Cupid who pierces the heart ....

And I had to have the funeral on my late DMs birthday - she also died of cancer.

DP and I once went to view a flat together, and discovered the flat underneath was occupied by the girlfriend of a bloke who'd beaten him up... we didn't move in....

There are loads more between me and him, and I have a weird sense that while do chart our own Fate to a large degree, there are also "influences" at play, in a sort of "cosmic trickster" sense.

wow, here's another coincidence for the coincidence thread. I knew your DP, we dated about 20 years ago.

I'm very sorry for your loss.

BennyBee · 22/08/2024 18:29

I do not believe in conspiracy theories but on the other hand I do not believe in coincidences like the bizarre death of two men (and their lawyer) who just beat a 8 billion dollar law suit. Something smells fishy to me.

When I was 30 Someone bought me a national newspaper from the day I was born. Inside was a story about a baby who'd been very ill, and his mum had had difficulty getting him to a hospital because of bad weather. The baby boy was someone in my form class at high school. This school was in a different country to the one I was born in and I'd lived in lots of different places before finishing up at that school.

Walking along a coastal path in Cornwall when kids were small and met a family who’s son was wearing exact same t shirt Ds was. It said ‘Give Peas a chance’ on it. Quite an unusual one. Both boys looked similar too with blonde hair. But to cap it all, unbelievably but truly, they referred to their son by the same name as ours!!!! We were all taken aback- It was all rather surreal. Wish I’d taken a photo of them both next to each other.
