How much have you spent on holidays this year?

I am looking to book a holiday for 2 adults and 2 children for next year. It's costing at least £2k for Europe all inclusive ones. I wonder if everyone is spending that sort of money. I am pregnant currently so haven't been on any holiday this year. My children are young so we can go on holiday in off peak season. Just looking to understand how much people spend on an average on holiday each year and has it gone up massively.

We are planning to spend about £1200 pp for 2 weeks 4* AI in Tunisia in the October holidays.

That's 2 adults and 1 child. Second child is on a free child place. So actually works out at £900 pp

Beezknees · 20/08/2024 13:09

6 grand per year or thereabouts. It's just me and DS but we do go in school holidays which is costlier. Gets us 2 or 3 holidays usually.

Dressinggowntime · 20/08/2024 13:14

Ten grand this year that we can’t afford tbh. That’s one abroad holiday and three uk breaks. Family of five in school holidays.

Hugmorecats · 20/08/2024 13:15

Around £800 but was just me and partner for a week in Europe

Positivenancy · 20/08/2024 13:17

Weekend in Paris for 2- 1500
1week in gran Canaria self catering for 2sdults and 2dc- 2.5k plus spending of nearly 1k
1week In Italy- 2k and whatever we spend there.

longdistanceclaraclara · 20/08/2024 13:17

Two weeks AI was 6.6k this summer, two adults, two kids, two rooms. Kids have outgrown the sofa bed family rooms. Same holiday next year is 7.9.

MonkeyPuddle · 20/08/2024 13:18

£82 for 4 nights camping at Easter
£350 for 7 nights camping in the summer holidays

wonderingwhatsnext · 20/08/2024 13:20

10k Florida, family of 3. Not every year though, We've saved for this for a while.

olivecapes · 20/08/2024 13:27

£2k for a family of 4 AI is amazing, are you going term time?

We're spending about £9000 on 3 breaks this year, £7,000 on 2 next year. We save up £6,000 minimum per year and are sometimes able to top up with bonuses.

LittleBirdd · 20/08/2024 13:34

About £8k, 2 x AI hols.

CharSiu · 20/08/2024 13:36

2.5k in total

2k on accommodation one week in a motorhome we hired and one week in a holiday cottage, both UK and then another £500 on meals out.

Definitelynotme2022 · 20/08/2024 13:38

I went to Turkey in June with my oh, we paid £775 for a weeks b & b. We didn't like the breakfast, so laid in late and went out for early lunch and dinner. Spending money was probably an extra £7-800, but we did buy several "designer" bags and a watch.

eurochick · 20/08/2024 13:43

Roughly:
£200 camping
£500 Ryanair flights to France to stay with relatives for the weekend
£1000 for ferry and Airbnb in France with friends for a few days

Keeping it low key this year after a more extravagant 2023.

Isitthathardtobekind · 20/08/2024 13:48

No idea how anyone affords these expensive holidays!
Mine for family of 4 this year - one caravan week in Uk for £900
3 nights away £300
Head teacher and teacher and this is all we can afford 😭

Backtrackingfuriously · 20/08/2024 13:53

I budget £2k for our main summer holiday = me + two teens in school holidays. I can get two weeks out of that if we drive through the channel tunnel, go to very cheap campsites, and limit eating out to twice (maybe three times) "properly" plus one or two fast food snacks. We mix up chill days with activities. Museums and castles etc are loads cheaper in France than the UK.

It cost another £500 to do two nights in an Airbnb (including meal out and couple of activities) in the UK in May with friends!

I've never done AI but think that sounds quite good for a family.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 20/08/2024 13:54

£3500 for 10 days AI Egypt. August

Blondiebeachbabe · 20/08/2024 13:54

£2k for 4 people? That's a bargain!

We spent £5.5k in January (long haul), and we are going away in October/November, which is going to end up costing around £10k. We don't normally spend that much, but the big holiday is 3 weeks to the other side of the world.

On average, we spend about £8k per annum, and that would be 2 x 10 night holidays, one in spring, and one in autumn or winter.

Our kids are grown up, and our mortgage payments are very low, which is a factor, I think.

DearOccupant · 20/08/2024 13:56

2 adults and 1 primary aged child. We've just been camping in France for two weeks and that was £3k in total (chunnel, camping, hotels en route and spending money). Tolls to come. And we spent £5k on 4 nights in NYC in May half term (flights, hotel and spending money). We also did Camp Bestival this year, that was £1.5k including spending money. And we had a weekend in Bath in Feb - Airb&b £170 plus spending money. Just about to go to Cambridge for the weekend - another £200 for Airbnb. And will probably do something similar at Oct half term. So that is about £10k in total. We save monthly but NYC was paid for with bonus, and Bestival I paid for as my husband's 50th birthday present. It's been quite an extravagant year due to said 50th. We normally spend £5k and manage two holidays - one is normally camping.

cheddercherry · 20/08/2024 13:57

That sounds like an absolute steal for 4 people all inclusive!

Bettyboop2530 · 20/08/2024 13:58

We went to Turkey in April half term for £1700, that's 2 adults, a 2 year old and a baby. We went just before the season kicked off and wasn't so hot.
Have booked Menorca for May next year in term time for £1930. Again for 2 adults and kids will be 3 & 2. Both holidays all inclusive.

TokyoSushi · 20/08/2024 13:59

£9K on 10 nights all inclusive in Turkey & France skiing

Doseofreality · 20/08/2024 14:01

Recently returned from a fortnight in Mallorca. Privately rented villa with pool, flights and spending money came in at just under £10k.

OneTC · 20/08/2024 14:08

About £450-£500.

Went climbing in Spain in April for 8 days

My sister and I got a Christmas market cruise with MSc this December. Two adults, two kids, all inclusive and it was £1440 for a week.

Next June we are going on a fjord cruise and that was £1400 without drinks included

LaSourciereEfrontee · 20/08/2024 14:17

In total, we’ve spent about £40k this year. Normally we budget £24-30k but we’ve had a long, special summer trip. We have two teens and love travelling.

But when we had toddlers, holidays were a week in the summer and a week at Easter in Yorkshire or Norfolk, in a holiday cottage. Cost about £2k each year, and many happy memories.
