How much have you spent on holidays this year?

I am looking to book a holiday for 2 adults and 2 children for next year. It's costing at least £2k for Europe all inclusive ones. I wonder if everyone is spending that sort of money. I am pregnant currently so haven't been on any holiday this year. My children are young so we can go on holiday in off peak season. Just looking to understand how much people spend on an average on holiday each year and has it gone up massively.

About £17k. But it was a one off holiday to USA and a short break in Europe.

ConsuelaHammock · 20/08/2024 16:01

£3600 for one adult and two children ( one adult child) for 2 week cruise in July. Cruise was £3300, flights 300ish , £65 insurance and then a few hundred euros spending money.
My 5 night break in May with a friend cost £264 AI but the food was mediocre so we only ate breakfast in the hotel. Probably spent £500 ish in total .

Skykidsspy · 20/08/2024 16:01

It has gone up. Summer hols seem to be around £900/week all inclusive for 4 star I found and that’s all sharing a room or one bed apartment sleeping on a sofa bed in the lounge.

5k family of 4 all inclusive during term time

tennesseewhiskey1 · 20/08/2024 16:07

about 20k - 2 adults 2 children, then i did a girls holiday myself which was about 2.5k. Daughter will do a ski trip with school in dec for about 1k.

Portakalkedi · 20/08/2024 16:08

Isn't this just a thread to allow people to boast? Not sure of the point otherwise!

3isthemagicnumber · 20/08/2024 16:08

Not more than we can afford but more than I'd like

12k- Med summer holiday (villa ,flights ,food and drink etc 6 people)
1.5k - 5 day festival for 2 adults (tickets ,camper van hire ,spends )
1.5k ish -3 night European city break (hotel ,flights and spends-2 adults)

Last year (but still within last 12 months )
European city break for 3 (2 adults and a teen)- 2k
Long haul holiday for 4-(flights and internal flights ,4 different hotels and a mini cruise -2 adults and 3 teens) 14k

It's what we work for - have 1 very old car between us , old furniture ,very old phones etc

Stickthatupyourdojo · 20/08/2024 16:09

I'm glad you posted this OP as next year we have two big milestone events that we'd like to go on holiday to celebrate for. In my head I thought eeeeek £5k absolute minimum but when I added up what was spent this year, all of which occurred or will be in the school holidays (a long weekend in a caravan, one week in a lodge which was basically a very nice caravan, 1 night in a very nice hotel in a European city including flights, M-F at CP, one weekend camping) it comes to £4.5k.

Molga · 20/08/2024 16:14

Yes it went up massively. That sounds like an amazing price to me, but we have teens and are tied to school hols.

NeedVacation · 20/08/2024 16:19

Thanks for the responses. It does sounds like a good deal for 4 star hotel AI for 7 days in May 2025. Some people have said they spend 5 figures on holidays, 😲 wow, how do you do that?

£300 self catering air b and b type holiday 4 days
£500 centre parcs 3 days
All in school holidays for 5 of us.

This is a good year for us. Usually its just one holiday haven style £180-300
No mega luxuries anywhere else in our life either.

I can't imagine paying over 10k not in a judgemental way just I can't imagine having that kind of money.

AllstarFacilier · 20/08/2024 16:23

£2000 all inclusive sounds a great deal! We did a night in Manchester a couple of weeks for 4 of us, and with hotel, food and entertainment we spend £700 just for that.

Namechangeno19 · 20/08/2024 16:23

12 nights in Vancouver and Vancouver Island .About £5000 for myself and son.About£1000 spending money.
Worth every penny!

HarperSabrina · 20/08/2024 16:24

2 adults and 1 child to Greece AI for 10 nights about 3.5k then spending money.

@NeedVacation it's a very good deal, too good to be true really, where are you going though? If it's the Med, the sea and pool may not be warm enough....don't want to be a downer, just don't want you to be disappointed!

WorkCleanRepeat · 20/08/2024 16:27

Make the most of those cheap off peak holidays. I'm struggling to find anything in the school holidays for under the 4K mark.

Boopbeepbeepboop · 20/08/2024 16:31

About £5.5k I suspect, one week self catering in the UK, including a ferry, one week all inclusive abroad, one expensive night away in UK.

IggyAce · 20/08/2024 16:44

We’ve spent about £200 on a night in the Peak District for 3. We go to New York near October half term and that’s cost £2600 for 4 plus I expect to spend at least another £1.5-£2k on activities and food while there.

QuotetheRaven · 20/08/2024 16:45

This is all pointless without understanding percentage of income if your looking for comparison.

We spent 10k on Florida in April and 4k on centre Parcs in August. 14k is 22% of our household take home annual pay.

I wouldn't say it's too good to be true. There's usually a fair amount in the 3 to 4 star AI range for around that in May, before half term. Especially if you're not fussy about where in the Med you go.

Agree the question about pools is worth asking though, as it will likely be unheated for that price.

Yeah, it's a 4 star hotel and it's off peak so I think it's reasonable price for that
