So I get my bounce from being on my tip toes and going up and down. Knees are slightly bent but they are fixed. As I bounce I stick a hip out. One hip out/bounce per beat. And just do generic arms in the air.

Someone told me I dance differently to everyone else and now I’m scared. Just realised everybody gets that bounce from bent knees.

Now I’m bloody paranoid.

I’m 30 and know I’m not an amazing dancer. But like to be social/have fun. I’m not doing the worm in a dance battle just enough to participate

I've just, much to ds's amusement/embarrassment had a go at your style of dance, and I don't think it's that weird? I do bend my knees more when I dance generally but I reckon I've done some tip toe bounce at times as well.

Crimblecrumble1990 · 19/08/2024 19:55

Ah I miss dancing.

I tend to go from foot to foot, kind of stepping, most of the foot touching the floor though each time. I kind of shuffle my whole body up and down a bit to get the 'bounce'.

My group of friends are all big drinkers though so usually just throw ourselves around a bit and scream the lyrics in each other's faces.

PussGirl · 19/08/2024 20:09

I’ve just been doing your dance too, Codat!

I tend to do an alternating double foot tap (the toe taps and the heel bounces) while wiggling my hips in the opposite direction with a bit of a pelvic thrust and arms sort of waving outwards at half the speed of my feet, if that makes any sense at all!

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 19/08/2024 20:09

Well my dancing involves stepping from side to side so I'm no help 😄

Honestly I think the thing to do is not care about anyone else, just dance the way you like to dance. Nothing in your description of dancing sounds crazy or off, it just sounds like normal dancing!! Maybe just try to relax into it, dancing is quite a primal activity after all, it's just about doing whst you feel. Good luck and happy dancing!

Theimpossiblegirl · 19/08/2024 20:22

Apparently I dance like a beautiful pissed fairy according to teen dd. In a nice way. Wave your heads in the air like you just don't care and dance like noone is watching I say.

Theimpossiblegirl · 19/08/2024 20:23

Hands
Wave your hands!

LoneHydrangea · 19/08/2024 20:28

I can’t imagine what you’re describing here, OP.

The worst dancers are the ones that just step each foot, with arms bent at the elbows.

I see loads of women do this.

Gyrate your hips, move your arms, change it according to the music.

Hoppinggreen · 19/08/2024 20:30

Big fish, little fish, cardboard box

TheYearOfSmallThings · 19/08/2024 20:34

Fuck it OP, I dance like a stick man only fatter. If you are enjoying yourself who cares?

And if you want to do the worm, I say do it - one day we won't be able to dance at all.

Fireplacewatcher · 19/08/2024 20:36

I’m loving this. Tiptoe bouncing, poking flies.
It has made my day. 🙂

Garlicfest · 19/08/2024 20:37

I do your foot-bouncing thing sometimes. It goes really well with 'rave' music or whatever the hell you're supposed to call it [flounders badly]. It makes for a bit of a floating effect, and I agree arm-waving is a definite enhancement!

I actually can dance. In practice, I muddle up all kinds of different styles and generally have fun while taking up too much space 😂 I'm not in it for a technique assessment, and neither is anyone else!

NCfor24 · 19/08/2024 20:37

Not read it all but I definitely dance flat footed and bounce/sway from knees. I move hips side to side and wave my arms about around hip level mostly.
However it's really hard to describe, I just move in a way that feels natural to me and vaguely in time with the beat. I'm an energetic and enthusiastic dancer at times. I am rarely, if ever, a good dancer.

RogersOrganismicProcess · 19/08/2024 20:38

It is the fixed knees I’m struggling to envisage. Can you film a small clip?

I, on the other hand, am an unintentional mix between a gazelle and a belly dancer with big “here I am” arms. I wouldn’t say I am a good dancer, but I certainly work the room 😄

BobbyBiscuits · 19/08/2024 20:39

I look more graceful when I'm having a tonic clonic seizure. I guess the idea is if anyone cares how you're doing it you should do it somewhere else?!

Didimum · 19/08/2024 20:40

I’m a step side to side sort of dancer, arms make whatever gestures are appropriate to the song, with enthusiastically singing the lyrics.

The best thing you can do in life is dance like no one’s watching. And whoever would make fun of someone’s dancing in an attempt to make them feel self conscious is a right bastard.

Bunnyhair · 19/08/2024 20:41

My DH told me I dance like Donald Trump. I thought he was just being a dickhead, until I saw some videos and realised he was right. It’s uncanny, actually. 😳

Trickabrick · 19/08/2024 20:43

Can we arrange a dance party for everyone on this thread as you all sound fabulous!

Sadsadworld · 19/08/2024 20:43

I think the thing that makes people look good dancing is confidence and looking like they're enjoying themselves. So just try and really get into the music, do your thing and smile!

5475878237NC · 19/08/2024 20:45

People from different cultures use their bodies in different ways. There is no one way to make your body move. It doesn't matter how anyone else dances as long as your way isn't injuring yourself.

SurpriseOzzy · 19/08/2024 20:49

I think I used to be an ok dancer now I don’t do a lot

wateringcanface · 19/08/2024 20:53

Imagine if a wacky inflatable tube man and a male bird of paradise trying to attract a mate had a love child

Fannyfiggs · 19/08/2024 20:54

WTDAC · 19/08/2024 19:16

I love this. I just stood up and tried dancing following your 'instructions'. I think I looked pretty funky. 🤣😍

I done it too and it's very ladylike. I felt quite princessy doing it 👑

Whoever told you you dance funny is a dick!!

I can't even explain how I dance, there's a lot of hip and shoulders movement, my feet stay where they are but I spin slightly on the balls of my feet and I keep my arms down, they kinda swing back or to the front and to the side depending on what my body is doing. My hands never go above my waist.

I had to actually dance to try and explain it and I think if anyone tried it they'd look like a python shedding its skin 😂

Turnitoffnonagain · 19/08/2024 20:57

I love to dance, kitchen dancing to the radio regularly. Went to a family wedding a few weeks ago and danced all night. I do a kind of hip swaying, twirly grooving bop with a few arm waves. 💃 Disco is my fave. That person is just rude, OP, keep dancing!

Longchampsachomp · 19/08/2024 21:05

I just tried your style of dance on tippy toes too and it made me feel quite girly! Not sure it suits my overweight 40+ body though.

I couldn't think how I dance so I gave it a go - flat feet, bit of a hip wiggle, with my hands diagonal to my hips, sticking out. I had no idea that was my go to move until this thread.
