Watching an old Porridge Film with Ronnie Barker.

They had a prison football team.
Do they have them in prison and do other teams come and play you or is just made up?

I don't know about football. But our club has played rugby against a prison club a couple of times

Some do. They mostly play against the guards.

parkrun500club · 18/08/2024 17:38

Some of them have parkruns. I think they do 20 laps of the yard or something!

Not sure about other teams/sports.

itsgettingweird · 18/08/2024 17:40

Some will and do. Various sports.

Some have trainers come in for PT sessions.

Some prisons won't because it's not safe to have the prisoners all in the same space with the risk someone does or says something they don't like.

Cat C/open prisons where inmates also have day release are more likely to than Cat A prisons like Belmarsh!

Definitely some team sports, my nephew's basketball team used to play a prison team.

Women as well?

DH used to play, and played against a prison team a few times. I can't quite remember how it worked, they couldn't be in the league because they couldn't play away matches.

There are prison parkruns as well but those results aren't included in the national results.

Parkruns can only be included in national results if they are freely open for anyone who wants to join in - obviously you or I couldn't just turn up to a prison parkrun so they can't be counted.

Not in the one I work in.

ExtraOnions · 18/08/2024 22:50

Some do .. we used to play cricket against a team at a local Cat C. All home matches of course !! We had to pack it in in the end, as it was a huge faff, shame really as it built community links for when people were released

Hannahthepink · 18/08/2024 22:51

The Young Offenders prison where I grew up had a team that regularly played the local team. The high security prison nearby (mostly sex offenders) did not as far as I know.

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 18/08/2024 22:53

Private prisons more likely than state, they are held to contracts where the inmates have to be engaged in purposeful activity and out of cells for quite a high number of hours a day, state they're generally on 23 hour bang up

PassingStranger · 19/08/2024 21:13

Anyone know about women's prisons?
