Moved into new builds. All new neighbours. Constantly hear neighbours arguing, young couple. Tonight was a new level of arguing, young girl basically screaming, could hear guy shouting. What would you do?

Was I being unreasonable for ringing doorbell until someone answers?

I’d probably call the police rather than ringing until someone answered.
a) for my own safety
b) so they realise this isn’t normal or acceptable in a relationship
c) so there is a record of incidents

I'd call the police and hopefully they'll turn up with social services.

Oh I didn't realise you'd actually done it.

Did anyone answer?

I hope they did, otherwise OP is typing with one finger on the bell!

Greytulips · 17/08/2024 23:53

Ring the police to attend.

Ringing the door bell could drive the abuse in a different direction.

Ava9 · 17/08/2024 23:53

I would also call the police if it's an ongoing thing

Jade31 · 17/08/2024 23:54

Thank you both for your answers. Looking back I should of done this. Moving forward if it happens again I will do this thank you. In the heat of the moment I was not thinking straight even though concerned i thought more appropriate to ring

Next time check which ones are social housing and not buy the ones near those.

AgathaSultana · 17/08/2024 23:59

Call the police next time, I'd be worried they'll hold it against you that you went round.
I once called the police on my neighbour after a huge argument and the man threatened to kill his wife and child who was a year old.
Well they knew it was me (assume because I was new and nobody else had called the police before) they dug up the Internet cable and destroyed it, spat at me, the wife came round to shout and scream at me. I ended up moving and now hope if any situation like that happened again someone else will call the police

Jade31 · 18/08/2024 00:15

Amazing what lengths humans will do against each other. Absolutely animals in some cases. Yes someone did answer, gave me a long description about mental health. Even so the arguments have stopped now. In fact more worried it's deadly quiet now! I've taken on board what everyones said and if it starts again, il act more appropriately and not in the heat of the moment

Stupid suggestions of phoning the police. If you decided to sell your house then you'd have to declare that when selling and it would deter buyers.

That’s an awful and judgemental assumption to make. I live on a new build estate near to a few owned by the council and they’re all lovely families who live in them.

Why would you have to declare that you'd called the police due to a domestic disturbance?

Yes because if some poor woman ended up dead your house price would be great…
