To think that a holiday home is not a 'home'?

Colleague of mine constantly mentions her partner's 'home' in Spain. I thought the partner might be Spanish or grew up there, but turns out it's just a holiday villa. They've had it since around the financial crisis.

It's always "Freddie's family home in Spain"... or "At Freddie's Spanish home"... but it's not a 'home' it's a house. They've got no connection to the place other than going out there to sit in the sun and drink. They spend a couple of weeks a year there.

I'm not bitter, I just find it irksome.

We have a house in Antigua - we call it our 'house in the caribbean' or 'holiday home' but never would call it our 'home'. We have no connection to Antigua other than thinking it's a nice place to holiday. I think locals would be offended if we claimed it as our home.

Hilarious 🤣

MonsteraMama · 17/08/2024 20:02

OP go and have a shag or eat some cake or something, this is a ridiculous thing to give headspace to.

Skyrainlight · 17/08/2024 20:02

Wow, the insight into some people's minds is scary.

We have a Spanish home. It’s the place where we switch off from work 6 times a year and have really special quality time there.
no x box or work just family fun.
We spend 8/ 52 weeks there and have lots of personal possessions, our own bedrooms etc.

It’s our home. YABU ! ( and probably are jealous)

Can I be your friend please ?

Simonjt · 17/08/2024 20:06

We have two holiday homes, one in London and one in Sweden. Both are homes owned by us, furnished with our furniture, they contain our belongings. They’re our homes, lots of people don’t spend all of their time in one primary home. One year we spent 17 weeks in one of our holiday homes.

My cousin is currently touring europe in her motorhome, are you trying to say this is actually her motorhouse?

The irony that you have a holiday home, and that's OK but your friend's Spanish home is not OK. 🙄

Snowdrop80 · 17/08/2024 20:06

So you call it a “holiday home” but not a home. Even though you’ve just literally called it a home. My brain is frazzled.

BitOutOfPractice · 17/08/2024 20:07

tell us you’re not jealous without telling us you’re jealous op 😂

PinkCast · 17/08/2024 19:00

If he wants to call it his Spanish home, second home etc... then that is what it is.
Are you jealous?

Yes.

BitOutOfPractice · 17/08/2024 20:08

If you’ve got a place in Antigua, I am a Dutchman.

Didimum · 17/08/2024 20:08

Who cares.

eotchs · 17/08/2024 20:08

It’s just the name for it

Show us your Antigua home

FatmanandKnobbin · 17/08/2024 20:15

I wish I could afford a fake holiday home in Antigua.

How much did yours cost op? Did you pay with monopoly money, or fake bank transfer?

coxesorangepippin · 17/08/2024 20:16

It's like saying cottage or chalet

It's basically a second home

GivingitToGod · 17/08/2024 20:17

Shibr · 17/08/2024 19:00

If they think it’s their home, it’s their home. Who are you to say what people call their home?

Spot on

and most posters don't think it exists😂

I'm just wondering who looks after the stable of unicorns when they aren't there

Itislate · 17/08/2024 20:23

blueshoes · 17/08/2024 20:23

Is this a wind up? Who can be arsed to split hairs between a home in Spain and a 'house in Antigua' 😂

mumedu · 17/08/2024 20:28

You sound envious.

HollyKnight · 17/08/2024 20:32

Holiday home.

Overheater · 17/08/2024 20:35

My parents have owned a holiday home for 10 years in a town we’ve holidayed in every year since I was a baby (30+ years). I 100% consider it be a second home as I have such a strong emotional tie to it. My whole family does. When we walk through that door, we feel at home.

Scorchio84 · 17/08/2024 20:35

My sons nana & grandad have a place in Spain, think they must have it about 20 odd years & it's most definitely their home & they certainly spend mre than 2 weeks of the year (though mostly Grandad does as he's retired) They even had a fence put around the pool when my son came along, her sister & husband bought a place just around the corner & that too is very much their home too

I can actually admit that I am very jealous though unlike you @eetic & would very much love this option in years to come
